She has an infection of some sort.
Kaitlyn woke up this morning and when I took her in to go potty she had a few drops of blood in her panties. She tried going pee but it was burning so she held it in and I didn't want to force her. I gave her cranberry juice and water hoping it would help and that she'd have to pee bad enough to go (since it's not good to hold it in). Well it's 11:30 and she still won't go. I'm taking her in for a urinalysis at 12:30 but I have no idea how i'll get her to pee in a cup. I feel so bad for her. I checked her out down there to see if I could see any redness. There's a little but not to where i'd be concerned if she had no symptoms but she is odory down there. I hope we can get in and out with a good dose of antibiotics and cure this thing. The ironic thing is that I was just in the doctors office on Monday with a bladder infection.
Be warned that they may cath her to get a sample if she won't go pee. Poor little girl, I hope that they get some good antibiotics in her & she starts to feel better.
I hope everything goes well at the doctor's, Boxzgrl. Lara hasn't had this problem yet, but I know she may at some time. I hope she's feeling better soon.
UGH Melissa! Jen had a UTI when she was not yet 2. It was awful! You KNOW how uncomfortable that is, and poor little thing doesn't understand what's going on. Let us know what happens.
Bella had a chronic UTI for almost three months when she was 3yo. It really is miserable. I hope all went well at the doctor's and that she's feeling better soon.
This was a problem with my girls. I found out through alot of pain and aggravation, that bubble-bath was the culprit. Also, when my daughter started school, she would hold her urine all day in order to avoid using a "strange" bathroom. This caused a very bad infection. The teacher was the one who told me that my child was not going potty. Thank goodness, we were going nuts trying to figure that one out. As soon as she started using the school's potty, she was fine. I hope your daughter feels better. Usually the antibiotics will knock it right out.
Mary, neither of my girls could do bubble baths either, and my granddaughter tends to have an irritation problem with bubble baths. Melissa, what did you find out?
Her urinalysis didn't come back by the time the doctor came in but he noticed some redness and irritation. He put her on a 3 day dose of antibiotics and some specialized baby rash ointment to help with the redness. No official diagnosis but I hope this helps. I am very prone to any sort of infection down there and the doctor said sometimes genetics play a factor. I remember as a child being so sad that I could no longer use bubble bath because of my infections so i've only let Kaitlyn have them on special occasions. My only other guess would be that she likes to play with the shampoo bottles in the bath with her toys and she probably got some out of the bottle and made the bath soapy. It took 2 hours to get her to pee in a cup and I only got her to do that because I was pushing on her bladder while on the potty to give her the uncontrollable urge to go. I didn't want her to get a catheter so I was being the big bad Mommy, lol. I'm glad this is over and I hope we'll get rid of this infection. Poor girl, I know exactly how she feels. I know she's had a long day because she's sound asleep laying on the floor by me, and it's only 6 o'clock.
Oh ugh. UTIs are no fun! Poor kid. That burning can hurt really bad!
Oh my poor baby. I know how she feels I just had one last month. I could not imagine being that little and having one. OUCH!
Poor little thing! I am so prone to UTI's that if I don't get enough fluids - meaning drink enough water every day - I will start to feel like I'm getting one. I've always been prone to those, AND yeast infections. UGH! And both my girls are too. So, this may not help much, but you might want to monitor what she drinks daily, and push water, or even cranberry juice, and nix the bubble baths. Hope she feels better soon!
Poor thing! So not fun for her. My sisters are the same way with regard to infections down there. Neither one of them can take tub baths or use bubble bath, etc. Cranberry *really* helps IMO. I had 4 UTI's during my pregnancy, and had only 1 prior to that my whole life! Go figure. I always did cran-apple because I hate straight cranberry. I hope she has a speedy recovery!
