I have long hair and I had to learn from the time I was very young what to do with it because no one in my family had long straight hair. Often my friends with girls especially in dance, gymnastics or for prom night, flower girls, family portraits, even Valentine's Day are always battling with the hair band that slides out etc. SO I loved it when I saw actual instructions for making a ballet bun or other updos.

I have long hair and I don't know what else to do with it other than the half pulled back in a clip or all pulled back in a pony tail.
