Using crib mattress pads?

Using crib mattress pads?
I never used one with DD for the crib. I just used the sheet. (They used to say, the less in the crib, the better) Anyway, I'm debating on buying one for the crib for this baby. They have a thin waterproof (the crib mattress is waterproof anyway!) pad that just lays on top under the sheet. It looks fairly thin. I can't decide. Did you use a mattress pad cover on your crib?
I do...I don't need it for the waterproof part because the mattress is waterproof, but it sure makes the mattress more comfortable! I started with a cheapo (like $10) and about 2 weeks after Natalie was born she stopped sleeping in there. I bought a $20 Sealy pad that fits like a fitted sheet and she went right back to sleep! I just think baby mattresses are so uncomfortable and a crib pad really helps with that.
I did. I also think it just helped "soften" it up a little. I also put a heating pad under the sheets for dd. She was born in December and she would be sound asleep and as soon as we put he into her bed, she would wake up and cry. My SIL is the one that suggested it might be because the bed was cold and to put a heating pad in there and it worked great. I would turn it off when we put her in bed!
I did not use a quilted soft mattress pad because my babies were tummy sleepers. I did add a allergen mattress cover, a tight zipper cover that helps reduce dust mites and such.
We still use one. It helps absorb middle of the night accidents as well as giving her a little extra softness to sleep on.
I bought a crib mattress cover but decided not to use it because I didn't like how it fit. It was kind of bumpy and not tight. Instead I found a thin, waterproof mattress pad that worked well. First I put on one crib sheet, then the thin mattress pad, then another crib sheet on top. That way if there was a leak in the middle of the night all I had to do was quickly strip the wet top sheet and the mattress pad and put the baby back to bed.
Just the sheet. Ame
I used a waterproof pad but that's it. I did what Trina wrote when they got older.
I think I had some kind of waterproof pad, for under the sheet. I don't remember having something soft and fluffy.
I doubled sheeted the crib also. It saved night time cleaning up and helped putting baby back to her crib. The best things to use are the absorbent pads a new mom uses in the hospital. They are blue on the outerside. I used a mattress cover, a blue pad, then sheet...a blue pad then another sheet. When your baby is tiny you can cut the pads in half and fold up the blue part, to keep it from leaking. (We also did this for my mom when she became infirm in her latter stages here on Earth ) You can ask your nurse for extra ones to take home and also buy them at local pharmacies in the infirm section.
I used those, too, Annie2! Just a little differently than you. I kept them handy and when we had leaks at night, I just stuck one under her with a light blanket covering that to protect her from the wet sheet until morning. Those things were GREAT! I was sad when we finally ran out! Cutting them up is a great idea for when they are small.
I use one with Rylee. Her mattress is waterproof, but I feel like it makes her sheets a little warmer.
