Toddler well-baby visits
Did you all continue to do well-baby visits with your ped once shots were finished? We just had our 15mth. well-baby appt., the last immunizations until she is 5. We were just talking about how we really don't have questions or concerns like we used to when dd was small, and our ped doesn't tell us anything we don't already know at this point. It's not about $ because our insurance covers everything. She only has one more (18mth.) and after that I really don't think we will just take her every year for a check-up unless she has a problem or something. Another friend of mine said she never did well-baby visits, but primarily because her insurance did not cover them. What did you all do once your kids were toddlers? TIA
I take them every year...like 12 month, 18 month, 2 y, 3 y, 4 y, etc. I think it's safe just so they can make sure the girls are doing fine, but that's just my opinion. It sure makes me feel better, for sure! And I will continue to take them every year for a while longer, it's good for everyone to get a yearly physical. I wouldn't go a year without one and I don't expect my girls to either.
I think I took them in once a year, until they started school. Although, they were usually in for something, other than well-child checks. My 16yo hadn't had a regular physical, since before kindergarten and when I took her in to update her tetanus vaccine, he suggested I bring her in for a physical. So, I did. They didn't find anything wrong, but probably good to have updated info in her chart. Emily had a physical, before she had her appendectomy last New Year's Eve, so she is set for a while, too.
I kept taking them for well baby visits annually until they entered Gr. 1. Now I take them every other year. It's nice to touch base with our pediatric practice and for the kids to get regular exams. They are comfortable there and now ask their own questions. LOL! Makes it nice for when they really are sick, because they're not scared to go to the doctor. It's a familiar place.
Rylee is going for her 2 year well-check up in November. I will continue to take her every year. She won't get anymore shots until she starts Kindergarten either. They will check her iron on her next visit and that is it.
We go every year for DS just to make sure everything is going well. I will do the same with Tay.
Ditto everyone else. Every year. It gets Kaitlyn acquainted with the doctor and it also makes sure the doctor isn't missing something I might be.
My kids (7 & 14) have been every year since they finished their shots. I have a chubby little guy that we need to watch. The dr keeps growth charts and records he is very thorough, he is never in a hurry and we get in at our scheduled time. If your insurance isn't a problem I suggest you take her. Deanna, would you please see my post about motivating a 7 yr old. Cat had suggested you would have input if you saw it due to your experience. Thanks, Mary. By the way you have a very beautiful daughter!
The military does one at 18 months, and then no more until age 4, and every couple years after that. I was a bit upset about that, because I think the 2-4 age is a big developmental period. I try to make an appointment every year just to check up on their growth.
We continue to go every year. Not so much because we have issues, but when we need shot reports filled out, camp papers filled out, y sports papers filled out, etc. It is nice to touch base on occassion. We do have issues at times and I just think when the doc makes notes that all was well 6 months ago they take you more seriously when you say, oh she is holding her arm funny..LOL.
Thanks for the input ladies!
Ditto the others. We did them every year until they were 5 or 6. I was shocked the other day to get a bill from my pediatrician where my insurance didn't pay. It was for a camp physical and DS (age 11) also got the new meningitis vaccine. After my co-pay I owed $110. I thought that maybe the vaccine wasn't covered since it is fairly new, but when I called my insurance company they said that they only cover well child visits up to 6 yrs. and an annual physical for me and DH. I'm going to appeal because DH has asthma and we have to go just to keep a check on his asthma and get new prescriptions, plus he had to be checked for a hernia and other stuff for camp. I couldn't believe they wouldn't pay!
