Crayon on walls
Hello, all. I know you already know what I'm going to say and ask. My 2 1/2 year old discovered an old box of crayons in my husband's junk drawer and just had a blast redoing my walls. Now I can't get the stuff to come off. (My son was "helping" me clean because it was his mess and I'm not cleaning it alone.) Anyway, I've tried regular soap and water, and I've tried the Mr. Clean magic erasers. Is there an easier way to get the crayon off the wall? I finally had to quit trying to clean it or else nothing was going to get done. I will take all the suggestions I can get. Thank you.
Mr. Clean Magic Erasers didn't work?! That has been my best line of defense. LOL! When that didn't work (make sure dry erase markers are WELL hidden!) we had to use a special primer and then repaint.
Maybe hold newspaper on it, and run a warm iron over it? I know that works on fabrics, but I'm not sure about walls. Are they textured? I had to put a whole lot of elbow grease in it when my kids colored on textured walls, and eventually used a toothbrush to get it all off.
Try Goo-Gone...it's at Home Depot. Or, see if nail polish remover works first...try a small spot.
I swear by Mr Clean Erasers. If they are not working, do you by chance have flat paint walls? If so you may need to prime and repaint the area.
Baking soda should work. Just wet a cloth and sprinkle baking soda on it and rub away. It might take the paint off a bit, so don't rub too hard and be looking to see if it's wrecking the paint. But baking soda and water has always worked for me on any surface.
Is your wall painted with flat, satin or semi-gloss paint?
WD-40 spray on cloth and rub. If that does not work, spray directly on the wall and rub. Also baby wipes work great for some strange reason ... Good Luck Ame
My method was to grab the crayons and add some artistic flair to the scribbles. I plan to paint the wall in another year anyway.
Is there a number on the crayon box? I would call them and tell them what happened, they usually know what to do.
I just had this happen yesterday and I used Clorox spray, let it sit for a minute and wiped it right up.
I gave up along time ago on trying to remove crayon, I found it is easier just to repaint.
Thank you ladies. I'll let you know what worked.
Unschoolmom wrote > LOL Now it's "art" class right! Can we study an artist along with that??? Turn EVERYTHING into an educational experience! LOL Can ya tell I homeschool! BTW... My son (4) did something similar last week. I've got most of it off w/Magic eraser. I'm not to worried about it b/c if we get our addition it's one of the walls that gets ripped out anyway.
This brought back bad memories for me! LOL When we were stationed in Okinawa I had just had my fourth baby in six years so I could not keep up with everything. I figured the marks on the walls could wait until we had to check out, then we would just repaint. However, when it was time for our apt to be inspected there was NO paint availible! I had to start scrubbing the walls. Well, I cleaned off my kids' scribbles from the flat paint ONLY to go to the next layer of someone else's kids' scribbles. Years and years of scribbles!!!! The day before our inspection, paint was issued and I painted over everything! Whew!!!
Well, I used diaper wipes to see what would come off. Turns out it was art in crayon AND pencil on my walls. Baby wipes took off the pencil. Baking soda (in a kind of a paste) with a toothbrush and lots of elbow grease did the trick. And yes, I do think we have flat paint. Now, dh and I are going to have a discussion about his junk drawer. Either it gets cleaned out or he's cleaning the walls next time.
Yay, glad it worked!
