Has anyone ever had a Sleep-Deprived EEG?
My 14 months dd has had 2 questionable seizure episodes following falls in the past 6 weeks. One fall was significant, the other was minor - but it really made her mad. She cries then does this twitch with her head (4 times to the left) and her eyers roll to the left. It lasts about 3 seconds then she walks away and acts completely normal. The Pediatrician thinks it is probably "breath-holding spells" but of course it does not match completely-she does not turn blue, lose consciousness, etc. So, to rule out seizures - we opted to do an EEG, to avoid having to put her to sleep for a CT scan. It will be a sleep-deprived EEG where we have to keep her up until midnight and then wake her up again at 3am and then have to be at the hospital at 7:30. (UGH!!!!!) Part of the study will be awake -part asleep. If she does not fall asleep on her on, they can give her Chloral Hydrate to sedate. Just wanted to see if anyone else had experienced this?? Thanks
A friend just did this with her 2 year old a couple weeks ago. She was allowed to put her to bed at her regular time though. Then they said wake her up several hours earlier than she usually wakes up. She usually gets up at 6, so I think they got her up around 3 too. Be ready for a very grumpy baby. :o(
I have no experience with this, but I just wanted to offer my support. I hope all goes well. Ame
I had this when I was 16. They hooked up all kinds of electrodes to me. It was hard staying awake for so long and afterwards I couldn't get to sleep (I kinda felt hyper). It does not hurt. It just feels weird to be hooked up with everything. I had it because I would pass out. They never determined anything. Years later I was told I have both high and low blood sugar (forget the actual names for it) and that it is low sugar that causes me to black out. I now keep bananas and hard candy around if I feel lightheaded.
