Teenager vent, ARGG
No wonder I am going grey at 37, sheesh. I sent my 16 yo ds with a blank check (mistake number one) to school this am so that he could pay his student body fees and maybe for a book that he lost, (I was unsure if I paid for it already). Going to the school office is a pain and I figured he could handle it himself, WRONG I told him that it was very very important that he not lose the check (which he didnt) and to be sure to tell me how much it was for (which he did) The check was for $120!!!!! The book was only $50 and the fees were only $20 so where did the extra $50 come from. I quote "i dunno" did you get a receipt, no they didnt have one. ARGG So I go over to the school. The offices computers are down and ds told them that he thought he had lost a book or two and his mom really wanted to have him pay for it. So they charged him for two books and the student body fee. When they will have the computers back up, who knows... OK so I figure I will have them shred the check and I will write them a check for the $20 fee and will settle the rest if and when they get there computers running. Do I have my checkbook? NO, go back home, yell at ds, go back to school and write a new check. Sometimes I think that I may have found ds under a rock instead of where I know he came from. He is a good kid but I swear sometimes....
Oh no!
omg i think u found my daughters twin !!! i could have written that post. she just turned 19 tho and omg she is still killing us with life like ur describing. goodluck
I hope you aren't blaming your ds to much. I would blame the office for charging him for a book that MAY be lost and may or may not have been paid for already. I think they should have taken the money for the student fees and waited till the computers came back up to figure out if he needed to pay for the books or not. jmho i would just be glad the kid didn't lose my check!
Sounds to me like your son did exactly what you asked him to!
Sounds like our 3rd dsd...Gotta luv those teenage years...Rememeber when you were that age!!!
Oh I know, I was pretty po'ed at the office for taking his word for it. Partially I just get so frustrated that he doesnt get the whole big picture and that I never can get a straight answer. It is like he doesnt think beyond the right now, and I always end up having to go figure out what really happened cause he doesnt have a clue. He just goes with whatever in these sorts of things and it makes me nuts. He has no concept of questioning things in these sorts of instances. I wish he would think a little further than right now. I didnt give him any more bad time about it, it just makes me crazy.
BTDT got the gray hairs. Take a deep breath, then scream. It won't make the situation better, but you'll feel a little better.
