The Switch to Whole Milk
I gave Helen whole milk for the first time today. Up til now, she's been on Good Start which is a predigested formula, so I'm a little concerned that she'll have trouble digesting the milk. She's a great eater and gets all of the basic food groups in real food, so I'm really not concerned about nutrition. She's had two meals and about 4 oz of whole milk after each meal. I don't want to overload her. Should I give her formula for the rest of the day and tonight or continue with the milk? My son was different. I had to mix milk and formula for him because he wouldn't drink the milk. What do you suggest? Ame
With dd I also mixed the whole milk with formula and slowly increased the amount of milk to formula. That was about 10 years ago now though. LOL They may tell you to do it another way now.
With Connor, I just made the jump right from formula to whole milk, as soon as we were out of formula. If she seems fine with it, I would just give her milk from now on. How old is she? I also started him with his sippy cup at the same time too and he did just perfect.
Two weeks shy of her first birthday! She likes to drink from a straw, but I didn't want to pull too many changes all at once, so I put the milk in her bottle. I'm just afraid of gastro issues - gas, constipation etc. When she was a few days old, she had blood in her stool from intolerance to milk proteins. She's had no trouble with the Good Start, with milk or cheese or ice cream, so I hope she's outgrown it. I wonder though, if I shouldn't just give her formula this afternoon and tonight just to be sure. Ame
We started 2 weeks before Natalie's 1st bday, too. I did a few days of half and half formula and whole milk (she was on Good Start also). After a few days I just went to all milk and we never looked back. She was a little startled by the cold of the milk for a few days, but she loves milk and the transition was really smooth. For Natalie though, I have found that the milk really constipates her, so she has apple juice everyday just to keep her even remotely regular, and we have cut back on milk. We're doing the calcium in other ways because the milk is so constipating for her.

i did the formula/milk for a few days with DD. She didn't seemed to mind the difference and i switched to milk with little problem. She drinks more of the whole milk than formula, so i guess that it was good to switch. I got to get her on sippies and no more bottles! Does she like and do okay with cheeses and yogurts?
Well, I gave her the formula for the last two feeds and it's a good thing. She woke up crying in the night with gas. I gave her some gas drops and she settled down. No milk today ... Ame
It might be too much of a switch all at once. You might try the mix and see how that goes next time you try.
