Something in his foot?

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive July-December 2005: Something in his foot?
By Jelygu on Sunday, July 24, 2005 - 08:52 pm:

About 3 weeks ago Christopher stepped on something, and got a cut on his foot. I looked and looked, and couldn't find anything in it. So I cleaned it out and put neosporin on it. A few days later, my MIL said she pulled a splinter out of it, and it began to heal. Then, a week later, it started bleeding again. And it has healed and bled again since then.
I took Christopher to the doctor, because I am assuming there is something in his foot because it will not heal. The doctor looked at it, said he didn't think there was anything in there and sent us home. UGH! We are going back to the doctor tomorrow, and if it is still bad (which it is) he might refer us to a foot specialist.
I feel so bad for Christopher because it bothers him and he tells me it hurts all the time. And at the doctors office it is horrible to have to hold him down while they poke at his foot.
Anyways, just wanted to vent/worry about my baby's foot! Hopefully it will be better soon.

(((Jennifer & Christopher)))
I know how you feel, Joe stuck something up his nose, twice, & we had to go to the ER to have the items removed!

There could very well be something in there. When I was around 13 or so, there was a sewing needle in the shag carpeting in my mom's b/r. As I was walking it stabbed me in the side of my big toe and broke off. It took more than one trip to the doctor and another to the ER to find that a piece was stuck in my toe.

Have they Xrayed his foot??? It could be something as tiny as a metal fragment.

I know how you must feel and him poor baby to have his foot hurt and the doctors say that nothing is there. I agree with Karen if it's not offered, Ask for an x-ray.

I hate trying to tell a doctor that something is wrong and they say that it isn't. You are there with you baby and you can see that something is bothering him. I hope that someone gets to the bottom of it and find out soon.

Can I ask you, you say that his foot won't heal? What do you mean by that? I ask because a friend of the family he had a sis on the bottom of his foot and not knowing what it was had his brother cut it off. And his foot would bleed on and off and wasn't healing and after going to the doctor a few times. It was discovered that he had suger diabeties. Not saying that this is the case with your son, but I do know that having it causes a longer healing time. Please keep us posted and again I hope that things get better.

Jessica jumped off the trampoline onto a branch. The branch went in her foot. As you described, it started to heal but not quite. There was still a piece in her foot. The only way we got it out? We made her soak her foot in epsom salts. It made the branch back out enough to pull out. It took 3 soakings to do the trick. After we finally got it out, we put neosporin on and a bandage to keep it clean. She healed perfectly after we got out the piece.
Good luck!

Poor thing! How's he doing today? That can't be fun! I hope they find it soon!

Well, we went to the dr, and he said he thinks it is fine. I really wish I would have asked for an x-ray, but after spending an hour in the waiting room and then holding him down for the examination, I wasn't thinking straight.
I guess it looks better, but I feel like it shouldn't bleed randomly?
Anyways, if it happens again, I am taking him to my family doctor.
