Thinking about taking dd to Dr.
Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Thinking about taking dd to Dr.
My 9 yr old has had stomachs aches for at least 6 months now. She seems to have them after every time she eats. She also has BM's several times a day and even right after she goes, she goes back to the bathroom to go again. She says "it's just because I ate to much" but that's not the case. SHe does not eat much at all (unless there is spaghetti on the table ) She's tall and skinny, not overweight at all, not even close! When she's done eating, she usually wants to lay down. I have Crohn's Disease and I'm afraid she might have it too. I think I will cut milk out of her diet to see if that's the problem first and then take her in if she still has stomach aches. I know that's probably the first thing the Dr. will tell me to do anyway. She really doesn't run around and play much, and if she does, she ends up coming inside, going to the bathroom and wanting to lay down because her tummy hurts. Anyone else have kids with this problem?
I have to say that dd has never experienced anything like that or have any of my friends kids. I think a trip to the doctor is in order and I would do it sooner rather than later. I hate to use the word "normal" because really, what is "normal, but it doesn't sound normal to me at all!!
My neighbor in Chicago had Crohn's Disease. He was 10 when we moved in. Your dd's symptoms sound a lot like his. With you having it, I would definitely have her checked for it. {{{HUGS}}}
Could be Crohn's, could be Celiac disease or lactose intolerance or other food intolerances or several other other things. Definitely take her to the doctor and for further testing. Poor kid, doesn't sound like fun. My DD had similar issues a couple years ago. In her case it turned out to be moderate constipation. She was still having BMs, but just the tip of the iceberg, so to speak.
Ugh. Yes. Had these problems with my ds when he was four. I finally took him to a pediatric gastrologist because his ped kept telling me he was constipated. I knew he wasn't. The ped gas. said he was not constipated and immediately started him on some stomach meds for acid. Worked immediately. He was a new little boy. Up till this point, he couldn't eat, didn't feel like playing, and just felt bad all around. Turns out he had too much acid, and his digestion was too slow. He is in fourth grade and finally off all of his meds. He does have to take pepto or tums or something occasionally. I definitely suggest a trip to the dr.
Our youngest daughter was diagnosed with Crohn's disease 8 years ago at the age of 10. My husband was diagnosed last year. Amy is doing absolutely wonderfully, and manages her disease through medication. It was such a relief to have a diagnosis. I wish you all the best, because I vividly remember the anxiety we went through until we had an answer for our little girl - who incidentally just started her senior year in high school!
I would be inclined to take her to the doctor, too. That doesn't seem right, that she should be so disabled, with stomach pain.
Get her in and have her checked.
I'm going to call today and make an appt. for her.
Another vote for taking her to the doctor........
I made the appt., i'm bringing her in next week.
Sounds good. Keep us posted.
Yes, please keep us posted.
Ugh. I hope you can get some answers. Poor girl!
I hope it's not that, but it does sound like it. Poor thing! I hope you get some answers and if needed, a good plan of action. I would be so worried. I hope it's something simpler than Crohn's.
Kay, when they diagnosed your then 10 yr old, did they make her drink that stuff and do a colonoscopy? Or do they do it differently for kids? I know there is no way that my dd would drink that nasty stuff. I was 19 when I had to drink it and I remember crying and throwing it up because it was so awful. At that time I had to drink a whole GALLON of it, 8 oz every 15 min. Now they just make you drink 2 8oz. glasses and take a laxative. But still, I can't imagine making my poor dd do that.
