Shaving legs
How old were your dds when they began shaving their legs. My dd, who just turned 9, decided to use my shaver in the shower the other day and shaved her legs. She also shaved one of her forearms but that's another issue I'm not sure if I should allow her to continue to shave or let it grow back and have her wait a while longer. Her legs are quite hairy and she is a big girl. She is up to my chin and I am 5'7".
If it's causing her embarrassment, I think I would let her.
Ditto Jann. My mom absolutely refused to let me until I was twelve and I was embarassed for quite a while by it. If they are hairy and she's willing to keep it up, she should be able to do it, IMO.
Oh, you might try using Nair instead of shaving. My dd did that for a couple of years and it seems to last longer between shavings.
Thanks for the input. That's what I was thinking but when I mentioned it to people their first comment was, "Oh, she is way too young to be shaving her legs." Jann, I was thinking Nair too. Is there a better smelling version now than when I was younger. Man, that stuff used to stink!
Dd started last summer when she was 9 and 1/2. Her legs were quite hairy and she was starting to get embarrassed by it. I was amazed at the number of girls that were already doing it! Didn't realize that until I started telling some of my friends that she was shaving. LOL I bought her a nice electric razor and she uses that. I thought about the Nair, but wondered if that would be too strong for her legs. She seems content with the electric razor for now, so I will leave it alone. LOL My dd also shaved her arms. What is with that??? LOL She only did it once because I told her if she continued, it would get even worse and dark like Daddys instead of light like mine. LOL She believed me and that was the end of that. LOL
I think I would let her! 5"7' is taller than I am! My 15 needed to shave, when she was 11. She got her period, in January, so by the time we reached swimming weather, she really had to shave. Her 13yo sister, just shaved, for the first time, before she went to the waterpark, on the second last day of school!
My now 12 year old started when she was 10.5 or 11, but doesn't consistently shave. She had very dark hair before she shaved, and it's come in lighter. Very odd, but nice! She shaves her armpits all the time, as does my 10 year old. I never got hung up on the age thing. I remember how I felt, and didn't want them to feel embarrassed.
My 15 yo used something called Veet for a while. You spread it on, leave it on for 3 minutes, then scrape it off, with this plastic thingie, shaped like a razor. It stunk like Nair, though. She uses a razor and shaving cream in the shower now, just like me! We just use Barbasol shaving cream, just like dad, since it's cheap! The "female" shaving gel stuff is too expensive and we go through it WAY too fast.
Thanks again ladies for the moral support. I think I might look in to the electric razor thing. That might help.
The Nair doesn't seem too bad. She's gone on to one of those girl razors. Neither of us use shaving cream, just water.
Sarah likes her Venus!
Jen started shaving at that age - very dark hairy legs and she was very self conscious about it. I started shaving about that time too. Jen also shaved her forearms - whole other story there too, which I'll bet is very similar to yours! LOL Long story short, she is just *fuzzy* and doesn't like it!
