1st haircut
Getting Connor's 1st haircut today...I'm nervous he'll scream! Daddy is going to get one too and then he'll sit on his lap...should be interesting!! How was your child's first haircut?
I thought my son would throw a fit for his first cut but we had my dh's done first and let Seth watch. He was a little confused but didn't throw a fit until she brought out the clippers for around his ears. Of course, since all my kids were bald as billiards, he was much older than Connor, almost 2 1/2 when he finally had enough to cut. I'm sure you don't need the reminder but don't forget the camera and an envelope for a sample of the clippings. And have fun!
My son's was perfect. We went to a place that did only childrens' haircuts. It was actually a childrens' salon and a toy store. We went to the toy store a few times and he could see other kids getting their hair cut. When we brought him for his, he got to sit in a little rocket ship which was really a hair cut chair. He loved it! He was also two, so he was able to understand what was going to happen to him. We got the whole thing on video. What a transformation, from baby ringlets, to a real little boy cut. I cried. I hated it. But I got used to it. Enjoy, and good luck! Ame
How exciting! Both my kids did fine during their first haircuts. In fact, they've been good for most of them. The key is to find a hairstylist who is good with kids AND can work on a moving target. LOL!
He cried the whole time!! He just didn't know what was going on, I think. But, it was cute and she did a good job! I loved hearing your stories! Too cute!!
I'm sorry to hear he cried, but I'm glad it looks cute! My DD sat in my Mom's lap (she was having her hair done) and my Mom had her palm full of mini m&m's. So, DD just nibbled away. In fact, that used to be what I always did when she was small. We would go to the candy shop next door and she would get some gummi bears and nibble away while they cut. LOL!
My best friend, who happens to be a hairstylist, often gave my kids haircuts at one of our houses when they were really little. She would put them in the middle of the kitchen table with a whole bunch of toddler friendly kitchen tools. They were so preoccupied with all the gadgets that they weren't even aware they were getting a hair cut. LOL! Quite a mess to clean up afterwards but well worth the positive experience for the kids.
1st haircut was HORRIBLE, but it's been fine after that.
1st haircut for DS was great! He sat on my lap and watched in the mirror. Still haven't taken DD and I don't think she will need one for a while.
My father in law was a barber. So he cuts dh's and ds's hair. I have an adorable pic of ds sitting on my lap with that pouty lip sticking out. He cried the whole time. I had to hold his head still for fil to cut it good. It was horrible. My mil had a balloon for ds to hold and bribed him with ice cream. The cuts got better and better after that. He is 4 yrs old now and does fine with the cuts. He still gets ice cream at grandma and grandpa's house after the cut!
I've found that a steady stream of teddy grahams while my 22mo ds gets his hair cut really does the trick. He sits in my lap too. He is on haircut #7 and does pretty well. Amy
