New area, need new friends. (for 6 yo)
Calling any military families, how do you find new friends in a new area? What suggestions do any of you have? Looking for well behaved, good mannered kids...... DD is 6 years old and this is the first move that she is old enough to make new friends. Last time we moved she was about 2 1/2! Not having much success with one of the neighbor kids. Anyone have suggestions.
Check out the local library program. They usually have some sort of reading and craft hour. See if there is any community group kid activity like scouts or something like that. 4-h is currently running a day camp in our area about gardening. I dont know if you have a childcare resource at the base but they usually have one in the community. They may have suggestons about kid activities. That way she is "out" there so that she can find kids to play with until school starts when probably you wont have anymore problems.
I have checked the community center, rec center, and any other type of kid "friendly" center. No one seems to have any groups. I guess there isn't many things in the summer months. I haven't checked out 4-H. Scouts only run during the school year, they start up again in August or September. We are a homeschool family so starting school isn't really an option for us. My husband is going to check with the Family Support Office on the base.
Do you have a community pool nearby? Many times the Y will have summer day camps or open swims that can be fun for the kids. Can she start a tumbling or dance class, even if it is with a private studio? My dd has made many friends through her tumbling classes. Do you have a community college in the area that offers children's classes? Best of luck!
Do you attend church? That is a great place to get plugged in and meet friends, for your DD and for you. All of my boys' friends come from either church, school, or the neighborhood.
My friend homeschools her kids and they have a loose group that meets every once in a while to have the kids work on projects w/ other kids and to socialize. You may have a homeschool group in your area, I dont know exactly how you would look tho...
