What was DD thinking....

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive January-June 2005: What was DD thinking....
By Kernkate on Thursday, June 23, 2005 - 08:43 am:

yesterday when I was in the shower and she (Alissa who is 4)was sitting on the couch as she always does, she picked up the cordless phone and dialed 911! I got out of the shower and she had the phone in her hand and I said "Alissa, did someone call? She said no Mom I called 911, I said no you didn't she said yes I did. Proud as a peacock. I said Alissa if you did the police will be coming." Low and behold, a few minutes later the Chief of Police is walking up my side yard! Thank God I know him well, he was walking up through my yard and I said "She did call 911 and he said no Kath I am just here for a visit. And laughed" So we came into the house Alissa at this time went up to her room, I called her down, when she saw The Chief, her jaw dropped! He says to Alissa, "I know I haven't seen you in a while, but did you have to call me to come see you, and she says in a terrified voice NO and runs up to her room."
After I got her downstairs I explained to her that 911 was for emergencies as I had explained to her before. I am glad she knows how to dial it just incase, but yesterday whatever made her call is beyond me. I would love to hear the recording as to what she said. She told me she said "My name is Alissa and I am 4 and there is no problems." So the dispatcher must have asked her what the problem was.
With the 5 kids we have between myself and DH no one has ever done this before. Leave it to Alissa, as I always kid. She is my busy child. Thank God she wasn't my 1st child or I would have had no more:)
Just had to share.

That's funny.

When I was younger, I was watching my sister and brother while my parents were at work. My little brother called 911 and asked to speak to my Dad. I heard him talking and all he kept saying was that he wanted my Dad. I took the phone from him and found out he had called 911, and I told them that everything was fine.:)

My brother did the same thing, but all he did was breathe on the phone. My mom was really sick & when the cops showed up they thought it had been her that called. After she convinced that it wasn't the said you may want to explain it is not a game.

My BIL renewed his vows at his home. My then 5 year old was up playing with several children in the playroom. The house phone was ringing and ringing and my FIL picked up the phone, it was the 911 operator, returning the call. The best info I can get is that he thought it was a play phone (i don't have a real one upstairs..lol) and he dialed 911 and said, there is a fire at my house. I guess she asked where he was and he said "i have no idea". About that time my 8 year old said "stupid that is a real phone" and quickly my 5 year old recanted " i'm sorry there isn't a fire, I was just playing" Needless to say they were unimpressed him "playing" and calling 911. They didn't understand he did not think the phone was real. He was terrified. We went upstairs after we got the call and asked "is there a phone up here" and he immediately said "it's my fault, i called 911 and now they are going to come take me to jail". Ah the joys of raising kids!
btw he always chooses to do things like this near my FIL, who has pretty much labeled him as THE trouble kid. Really it is all about just not being in his house ..LOL

My sister has accidentally called 911 twice, at the ages of 6 and 16!

When she was 6, she was calling my uncle, whose # included the digits 1910. She transposed them. Her conversation with the 911 operator was,

Operator: "911 what is your emergency?"
Lisa (who never listed very well): Uncle Steve?"
Operator: "No sweetie, this is 911."
Lisa: gasping, "Oooops!"

She then hung up, and when the operator called back and talked to my mom she wasn't upset because it was obvious Lisa had just misdialed.

However, when she was 16, she was playing with the phone. We were home alone, and I was doing homework in my bedroom. We'd seen on some TV show that with certain phones, you can dial numbers by clicking the button the phone rests on the right number of times. Lisa decided to try calling a friend, and managed to dial 911. She didn't realize it until the cops rang the doorbell! They asked her if she had dialed, and when she said no, they asked who else was in the house. "Just my 18-year-old sister who is doing homework." She said they shined their flashlights in behind her to back sure no one was holding a gun on her, etc. They left completely confused, as she didn't tell them she was playing with the phone! I guess they wouldn't suspect your average 16-year-old girl hanging out alone or 18-year-old working on homework to do such a thing!

Kayla has called 911 on purpose before! The first time she called because she said her brother and sister were being mean to her! She did not tell anyone until the police came! This was right after we moved into our current house (she was four). Then a few months later she called again. And a third time a few months after that. I just LOVE when I open the door and the police are there and all of us (except Kayla who is hiding) are like HUH?!? The last time I had the policeman tell her VERY FIRMLY not to ever do it again, that it takes the line away from people who really need it. I also had to tell her that next time, unless it was truly an emergency, that I would let them put her in the squad and take her to the police station. She never did it again. The policeman also told her that Mommy would have to pay a lot of money for a fine.

HAHAHA Kathy, that's how I feel about Kayla, if first would have been LAST! I know someday her adventures will be really really funny but while they are happening.....UGH!

My friend called 911 on accident once, and her dad is a cop!

We were at my house (i believe) and she was calling someone. We were probably 12 yrs old. The extention was a 944 number and she accidentally called 911. When she realized what she did she quickly hung up. And she was sort of freaking out, then she got a grip and called right back and apologized and said she accidentally called 911. I think she said they were kind of ticked off, but they thanked her for calling back immediately.
