Toddler Meal Ideas
Okay, I know we've been over this and I actually have a post from a while back in mind and I can't seem to find it. Now that dd is off of formula she's eating everything in sight! I feel like I need to make her more complete meals now to fill her up. Dinner is covered, but what are some good breakfast and lunch ideas? I'd like to add meat to her lunch more often, too...what do you do? TIA
Frozen petite peas...sometimes it's the ONLY thing he'll eat! Baby Yogurt Waffles Broken animal crackers Cut bow-tie pasta with a little sauce Rice Krispies Graham Crackers I try to get him to eat more fruit but he refuses the cut up peaches, etc. But, he DOES like cut up grapes...especially when they're frozen. Feels good on his gums I think.
Thanks Heidi....AND I finally found the original post I was thinking of so I got some more ideas. Thanks!
Breakfast: Waffles, Toast, Pancakes, Oatmeal, Cereal, scrambled eggs Lunch: Small bits of turkey and ham, pasta and sauce, chicken nuggets, fish sticks (not the healthiest options), pb&j sandwiches cut into small pieces, cheese pizza torn into small pieces, cooked vegetables and fruits, small pieces of soft raw fruits like peaches, baked potatoes with cheese and/or veggies. Basically a toddler should be totally on table food and can eat almost anything you eat as long as it's not too spicy, hard to chew (like steak), or a choking hazard (like hotdogs). Just cut in small bits and never leave the room even for a minute when your little one is eating. Personally, I would steer really clear of grapes for awhile and would be a little wary of frozen peas. One of my boys' favorites was pieces of banana rolled in crushed graham crackers. They could pick them up without them sliding all over the place because the graham crackers gave them "traction" and they were yummy--but VERY messy.
Good idea on the bananas Pamt...they're too slippery! She's been on table food since about 9 1/2mths, but she hasn't been the biggest eater at bkfast and lunch until we dropped the formula. I guess since I'm not making a 'meal' for the family at lunch, I'm not always sure how to fill her up. Thanks for the idea!
Can she have scrambled eggs yet? I would still try the frozen PETITE peas and CUT the frozen grapes into fourths. Connor can't get enough of them! It's SO hard to get him to eat fruit too! Try cut up blueberries too. The peas and grapes turn into mush in a matter of seconds, but the initial coldness on their gums feels SO nice! Try them yourself! Oh, and he loves cheddar and mozzarella cheese sticks (in small pieces of course.)
She will have one or two of the following at each meal: Breakfast: Milk, Scrambled Eggs, Fruit Bar, Waffle, Turkey Bacon, Pancakes, Cherrios, Wheat toast w/ a little butter and Fresh fruit...she LOVES watermelon. Lunch: Turkey, Grilled cheese, quesadilla, String Cheese cut into sm pieces, All white meat breaded chicken pieces, graham Crackers. Dinner: Beef Ravioli's with butter or sauce, Pasta, Ground Turkey, rice, veggies (fresh and frozen), Chicken, pretty much whatever we are eating as long as it's not spicy.
I mentioned this before on a similar thread, but my dd LOVES veggie burger patty. I use the gardenburger ones that are made with brown rice, mushrooms, veggies (not the tofu ones, although they are probably fine too). They are great for a quick lunch because I can just cook them in the toaster oven and cut them into cubes. She wolfs them down
Talyor LOVES those! I make those for her at home and that is what I order for her at Islands. She also loves Danimals.
Connor tried watermelon today and LLLLOOOOOVVVED it!
