My Poor Baby

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive January-June 2005: My Poor Baby
By Rayanne on Thursday, June 9, 2005 - 09:05 am:

I got Rylee out of bed this morning, and she was burning up. I took her temperature and it was 100.0. I know that it's not too high for her age, but she looked miserable.

Now, after I gave her Tylenol and some breakfast, she is running around and playing.'
She amazes me:)

By Angellew on Thursday, June 9, 2005 - 09:30 am:

Ohhh... don't you hate when they are sick? They are just so helpless... yet resilient!

Hope she feels better! :)

By Rayanne on Thursday, June 9, 2005 - 12:51 pm:

I took her to the doctor because before I was going to lay her down for a nap, she still felt warm. Her temperature went up to 101.6. The doctor saw her, and she pricked her finger to check her blood, and all came back fine. The doctor said that it could be Roseola. I have never heard of this before. Has anyone's kid(s) had this before?

All three of my kids have had roseola. She probably will develop a light red rash, slightly "lacy" looking on her torso, especially her back, and will be feverish and a little lethargic for a day or two. Tylenol or Motrin always helped my kids. The rash will show up for several weeks if she gets warm from the summer heat or warm bath water. My girls are VERY fair skinned and the rash showed up for over a month with each of them. I don't think the fever or rash lasted more than a few days. Lots of hugs and rest should have her feeling better soon. :)

Cori, my doctor told me not to let her near anyone who is pregnant if infact that is what she has. My question is that since the rash showed up for over a month with yours, how long should I keep her away from them? In her swimming lessons, which she is not going to this weekend, there is a pregnant mom, and I don't want to put her baby in danger.

Poor kiddo!! I don't have any experience with Roseola, but fevers are no fun!! Hope she's feeling better!

By Ginny~moderator on Thursday, June 9, 2005 - 03:13 pm:

I remember when my oldest came down with Roseola, and we had spent the whole afternoon with a pregnant friend two days before. My recollection is that my friend's OB had her get a series of shots of something to protect the baby, and that there was indeed a risk of danger to the baby. I'm sure you will play it safe.

At least tell the pregnant mom so she can check with her OB. I did a quick bit of Google and there appears to be mixed information about this issue.

I think you just have to keep them away from pregnant women during the fever stage. Definitely let any possibly pregnant women know, but I've also heard that if they've already had this, their immunity will protect themselves and the baby-to-be. I'd give your ped. a call just to double check since it's been a few years since my youngest had this.

My DS had Roseola as a toddler. Not fun. Hope Riley is feeling better soon!

Poor Rylee! Hope she's better soon!

By Emily7 on Thursday, June 9, 2005 - 07:12 pm:

I hope Rylee is feeling a little better. Poor thing.

By Rayanne on Thursday, June 9, 2005 - 11:12 pm:

Well her fever spiked all the way up to 103.0 this evening. I wanted to take her to the ER, but Chris said that she would be fine. I trust him since he has had training as an EMT & Firefighter. I went to Target and bought her some Motrin, since the doctor told me to switch back and forth every 3 hours with that and Tylenol. At 10:30pm, we checked on her and she was soaking wet. Her fever broke!!!!!!! It went down to 97.5. I am going to check on her again at 1:30am, and see how she is and give her some Tylenol. I hate to wake her, but I don't want her to get another fever and it sky rocket while I am asleep.

By Andi on Thursday, June 9, 2005 - 11:49 pm:

You are such a good mommy!! I hope she feels better tomorrow.:)

By Karen~moderator on Friday, June 10, 2005 - 07:38 am:

Good to hear the fever broke. Just remember, fevers tend to go UP at night. The alternating Tylenol and Motrin every 3rd hour is the best way. It is so scary when your little one has a high fever!

By Crystal915 on Friday, June 10, 2005 - 10:41 am:

Yeah!! I'm glad the fever broke! How is she this morning?

By Rayanne on Friday, June 10, 2005 - 12:42 pm:

She seema to be a little better. I woke her at 1:30 and gave her some medicine and again at 4:30. I let her sleep after that since she usually wakes up on her own between 7:30 and 8:00 anyways. She woke up 7:45. I feel like I have a newborn in the house with me waking up every 3 hours. LOL. Her fever was gone this morning, but then at 9:00 it was up to 99.9. I gave her more medicine and am just going to keep it up. It hasn't gone higher than 99.9. I am checking her temperature about every 3 hours unless she feels hot in between. If at the 3 hour mark, she is fine, I am just going to leave her alone. She has been very clingy, which is not like her, so I know that she doesn't feel well. She took about a two hour nap this morning and is playing now. Hopefully she will start to feel better. There is no sign of a rash yet, but I am keeping an eye on it to see if it does pop up.

Andi, Thank You for saying "You are such a good mommy!!". It made me feel good.

By Rayanne on Friday, June 10, 2005 - 11:40 pm:

Well, the highest her temperature got today was 100.6. I hope that means that whatever she has is leaving her. I cannot stand it when she doesn't feel good. It just breaks my heart.

By Andi on Saturday, June 11, 2005 - 12:18 am:

I'm sure she will be fine. She is in good hands and in the best place she could be...at home with Mommy.
