Sassy 9 year old...what do you do?

DD is nine and is a great kid. Good grades, loves to dance and play sports. However, unlike my other two she is sassy!! We call it the "attitude" and have tried taking away privileges, allowance, etc. to no avail. I am afraid if we don't find a way to deal with this now we will have a teenage monster on our hands!! Any suggestion?? Books that offer good advice??

i have found the best person to ask for advice is the school counselor and the principlas at the schools cuz they have the best line of parent reccommendations that work in different situations. they also know other parents that have btdt and can relate other experiences. good luck

I would recommend the book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Families. I love it because it is all about parenting with the end in mind and creating a map of how to get where you want to go. You work together as a family to create a family mission statement and determine what kind of family you want to be and how to achieve that. If your daughter works with you to come up with a picture of what kind of family she wants to have, she may very well tone down her sassiness. I like this approach because it is so positive and gives all members of the family a voice and some control. HTH.
