I know you're in the process of weaning Conner from the bottle right now, too, and I wondered: are you putting formula in a cup or are you doing milk in the cup? I've started doing lunchtime formula in a cup (just 2 days now), but now I'm wondering if I should/could just do milk at the same time? A friend said that she went to milk in bottles, then milk in a cup and it got me thinking. How are you doing it? Thanks!
I know this wasn't addressed to me, but I'll stick my nose in where it doesn't belong anyway How old is your little one? Cow's milk is not recommended until 1 year, so if your child is one year (or very close) you could just do milk. I never did the mixing breastmilk with cow's milk to transition the change since my dd is not a fussy eater and had no problem just going to straight milk, but if you want you can mix the formula 1:1 with milk for the first week or so until they get used to the change. Also, how you go about changing from bottle to cup depends on your child. My dd takes everything in stride, so we just went straight from breast to cup, but if you have a child who likes things a certain way, you could certainly get him/her used to the milk in a bottle before switching to a cup, just so it is not so much change at once.
Thanks Frasersmama ....She'll be a year in 6 weeks. She hasn't been picky so far, I just didn't want to make two changes all at once I guess. I don't think she'll have any trouble with the millk, I think she'll have more trouble with the cup change honestly. She'll drink formula from a bottle like there's no tomorrow, but when I put it in the cup she doesn't drink nearly as much, sometimes little to none. I didn't think she relied on the bottle so I thought it wouldn't be a big deal, but now I think I'm realizing that she really *likes* the bottle, you know? Also, this is a little off but do you know if there is a 'recommended amount' of milk she should have daily? I forgot to ask the doc that at her 9mth. check-up. Thank you! Get nosy whenever you want Frasersmama!
Hi! Sorry, I've been so busy lately...only have had time to be on the board for about 10 min a day! Ugh. We did put formula in one sippy and diluted juice in another. When he wakes from his naps, I give him the formula sippy. Then, he'll eat some solids. Then, I'll give him the juice sippy to wash it down. (White grape juice and apple juice are his favorites.) Connor will eat anything and everything now...and he's REALLY doing his sippy cup well!!! (He understands that there's milk in it when I give him the sign language for it too, so that helps.)
I believe the recommended amount of (whole) milk for a 1 year old is around 24 oz. a day.
Thank you Candis!
