Scooters?
My dd, who will be 6 next month, wants a scooter for her birthday. She tried out a friends scooter this past weekend. It was a little Disney Princess scooter. DD said that it was too small for her, but she still wants a scooter. I am skeptical about getting her one of those Razor scooters. They seem so thin. I have visions of her breaking her ankle on it. Plus she is not exactly coordinated yet. Have you seen any scooters that are between the little ones for little kids and the Razors for big kids? Do your kids have scooters? How do they do on them?
Both my girls have scooters. My nine year old started out on one like the Disney one you described, with training wheels. When she got proficient, around age 5, we took the training wheels off. By 7 though, it was too small for her and I found a bigger version of the training wheel one at a garage sale. Now my four year old uses the old training wheeled one. My nine year old still zooms around on the bigger version which should be fine for a long time as it's actually bigger than the silly Razors. I hate the Razors, too. I like the big, fat wheels these other scooters have, and the nice big, WIDE handlebars. I would suggest a bike store or you could check regular toy stores if you're out and about. I just don't know if they still make the bigger version of the training wheeled scooters. Since mine came from a garage sale about two years ago, I have no way of knowing where it came from and there isn't a name brand on it. But keep looking....

That one is perfect for dd, but there is no way i am paying that for a scooter! LOL! Mayvbe i should look at some garage sales!
My kids all have razor scooters, they love them. It took a little time for them to feel comfy with them, but they zip every where now. It is GREAT for their balance, once my kids figured out how to ride scooters they were able to ride their bikes. The razors are adjustable so they work for all sizes. I ride my sons on occasion. I paid about 10 each for ours through sharper image on their clearance website.
Razor Scooter Emily has one similar to this. She loves it and always wears her helmet when riding it.
My DD tried one out in ToysRUs the other day (it was a Strawberry Shortcake one). It had 2 big tires and was longer so it had more room for her feet than the one she has now (She is 5 and has a training one that she got when she was 3 with the two wheels in the back. However, I just checked it out on the Toys R Us website and it says it is for ages 12 mos to 4 yrs. I don't think I agree with that! My 4 yr.old DD tried it too and it was too hard for her to handle. I want to get my oldest DD a new one for her birthday this summer. I actually would love to get one that I could ride, too .
We bought the Razor scooter last Christmas for 6yr old daughter. She was slow to start, but a pro now. she LOVES it!
My kids have had Razors since about age 5 or 6 and do just fine.
My daughter is 5 almost 6 and never used any type of scooter with the regular thin wheels and thin foot part...we just lower the handle so it goes all the way down and she's fine. The balance took her a while but we put on all her "gear" in case she falls and she loves it.
