DS Bedwetting at 5 years old

Does anyone have great interventions for bedwetting at an older age?

My DS is 5 and started bedwetting last year after the birth of my daughter in July. He had been fully potty trained. It never resolved. We then attributed the reason to be his very enlarged tonsils. The ENT explained that it was a symptom of sleep apnea. He had the tonsils removed in Nov 2004. We are still having the same issue. If I get up every 4 hours during the night and take him to the bathroom, he can keep dry. Anything over 5 hours - he has accidents. He has lasted a few days in a row, but then seems to regress again. We have tried reinforcing, promising a big treat for 1 week of dry, etc, etc, etc.

At first, I believe he not was waking up when he wet...now, I wonder, because he is much easier to arouse and take to the bathroom. He is now complaining of being afraid of the dark (monsters/ghosts), so I have no idea how to proceed - we already have a bright stop light, nightlight, flashlight, and the bathroom light on in his room.
The wet sheets do not bother him, he will sleep in them all night, unless I wake him to change them.
I appreciate any tips you may have....The loads of laundry and sleepless nights are feeling endless.

WELCOME to Momsview! :)

Have you talked to your pediatrician about this? My DS wet the bed nightly until he was 7. Our ped. doesn't treat bedwetting until kids are at least 8 or 9 yrs. old because it's that common. Some kids are simply not physically capable of staying dry all night. We tried everything but it didn't matter. Good Nights (like Pull Ups but for bigger kids) made things much easier for everyone involved. You can also double make the bed - plastic mattress cover, sheet, plastic mattress cover, sheet - so that middle of night bed changings go easier.

Ditto everything Trina said (including the welcome!). My son's 11 and still has accidents sometimes, although he's on a medication that one of the side effects is urine accidents (both day and night). Some kids just get into such a deep sleep they don't wake up to take care of business. I know it's hard, but he's only 5yo. If you feel it's a behavioral thing (since you said he was previously dry) you could talk to the ped about it. Good luck and I hope to see you posting often! :)
