15 Month Check-Up
Rylee went today for her 15 month check-up. She got 4 shots. I hate having to hold her down while this is done, but then I get to pick her up and hold her in my arms. It feels so good to comfort her. She weighs 24pounds and 11ounces and is 31inches tall now. The doctor said that she was perfect. I know that. He said that she still has some of her soft spot left and that was good because it will allow her head and brain grow more. She got her first lollipop today and that seemed to make everything all better. She got a bubblegum flavored one. She did pretty good with it. I thought that she would try and bite it, but she sucked it almost all gone. The best part about the appointment today is that she doesn't get anymore shots until she is 5 years old. She will get her finger pricked in 3 months, but that is it. I am soooo happy about that.
No more shots until she's five? Wow! DD would be thrilled if that were her case! She's had 21 shots so far in her short life. It's great to see Rylee doing so well. I bet it was fun watching her with her first lollipop!
Christopher went for his 15 month check-up today also! He weighs 25 lbs, and is 32.5 inches tall. They are pretty much the same size! Christopher didn't get a lollipop though I hate holding him down for the shots too! He looks so pitiful and just tries to reach for me. Breaks my heart! They didn't say anything about not having anymore shots, so I guess he probably will get more next time. He also only got 2 today. The worst part is that we had to wait for an hour in the waiting room. UGH! I hate the wait. By the time we got to the room he was already in a bad mood!
I'm glad everything went well. To me, the time between 15 months, and ready for kindergarten went FAST. It seemed before I knew it, it was time for shots again. 4 shots is a lot to get at one time! Emily got her Hep B shot at 5, too, so once we got an MMR and a Hep B, next we got a DPT and Hep B, then just a Hep B.
Rylee is in sooo much pain right now. I gave her Tylenol, but her poor legs are botherng her. She is limping all over the house, when she can walk. Most of the day she has been screaming for someone to hold her. My poor little baby.
Enjoy! 15 months was one of my absolute favorite ages!!! You might try Advil, it helps with inflammation better.
Ditto Jann! Jeff was 15 months old when Jen was born - that is SUCH a cute age!!!!!!
Karen, isn't it sad to be praising 15 months as one of our favs when we have teens and older! Doesn't make it sound real promising for the next few years does it! LOL
She is going through her pre-terrible two's now. She is alot more fun, but those tantrums and screeming and hitting have got to stop. She almost bit me today for the first time, but as soon as she put her teeth on my hand, I said "NO" in a very stern voice. She backed up fast. Jann, do they sell Advil in a liquid for Infants? I have never seen it.
Advil and Motrin are the same thing. (Ibuprofen) My kids had shots at 18 months, and then no well baby visits until 4 years old. I thought that was strange, I had called to make their 2 year, only to find out there was none.
I think they do??????
That's weird Crystal. Kaitlyn has a 2 year check up and one every year until 5. Are the kids still on military insurance?
Yeah, but for some reason our Tricare only does 18 month and 4 year. I thought it was really weird as well, maybe it's just this region?
Probably, because we have Tricare too and it's every year until 5. Strange, huh? We have Prime, so maybe thats why?
Crystal, TriCare does vary from region to region. I'm finding out (now that our hospital has a contract with them) that they have alot of odd clauses like this. Military insurance is definately a bid of a different color.
We also have Prime, so it must be the reigonal thing. Also, our region just changed providers (from Humana to Healthnet or something, I haven't paid much attention) Amanda, when Madison broke her leg she was sent from one hospital to a level 1 trauma center, because of the type of injury. The trauma center accepts Tricare, but there is a system of authorizations since they are not an MTF. It was the biggest pain, no one could get through to the authorization people, they sent me on a wile goose chase, and no one knew who to call or what to do. What a mess, it took forever to get Tricare to pay (and the bills totaled about 10K)
They changed to Healthnet. The problem is (and I don't agree with it) that their reimbursement is terrible but people feel an obligation to see the patients. So whenever possible, at least my opinion, is that they pass the patient to the next place if at all possible. Alot of times, it puts the patients in the middle. It's not a pretty system.
poor baby, my girls go every year after they are 2 and then get shots again before kindergarden. It seems like you go an aweful lot when they are young, huh? 2 weeks, 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 15 & 18 months, then 2years and every year after that. Wow, and not to mention the times they are sick. I guess I am reflecting on what I have to look forward to in a couple months... I hope she gets to feeling better real soon, I remember when Hailey would get 4 shots at once...it is not fun.
