Child Passenger Safety Quiz

I got a 100!

By Katiesmommy on Saturday, March 19, 2005 - 01:39 pm:

OK, I got an 80%....

By Melanie on Saturday, March 19, 2005 - 02:03 pm:

I got a 90%. I said the straps should be positioned at or above shoulder level, but it said the answer was below the shoulders. Trina, is it different for infant seats and my mommy brain won't let me remember back that far?? I know a child's shoulders are not supposed to be above the position of the straps. Please clarify. :)

By Tunnia on Saturday, March 19, 2005 - 02:17 pm:

100% for me. I almost missed the infant seat shoulder strap question too and had to search my memory for a minute, but then it's been four years since I've had to remember that bit of info.:)

For rear facing car seats the harness straps need to be at or below the shoulders. :)

NHTSA - CPS chart

Forward facing - at or above. Actually, most convertible seats REQUIRE the tops slots when forward facing because the lower slots aren't reinforced. There are a few exceptions but not many (Britax seats and some Cosco models). Here is what can happen when the lower slots are wrongly used when forward facing. :(

Thanks Trina. Gosh, I just have no memory left. That mommy brain is something, isn't it? LOL.

I got a 90 - I missed the one about the chest clip...Mine is way lower than armpit. Are we dummies? I'm changing it right now!

By Kay on Saturday, March 19, 2005 - 02:38 pm:

I'm mad at myself for scoring 80 - all the years I spent on the our local National Safe Kids Coalition - I should be ashamed! :(

By Cat on Saturday, March 19, 2005 - 03:25 pm:

I got 100%. :)

By My2cuties on Saturday, March 19, 2005 - 04:34 pm:

oh man I got 90% because I always thought the shoulder belts were supposed to be at or below but then I watched a video that said at or above the shoulders. Oh well, good to know I had it right the first time though. On a side note, I have a habit of fixing the clip on the infant carriers (with the babies in my church), putting it in the correct place, it seems alot of the parents put the clip down near the belly button. How do you tell a parent that is wrong? I have just fixed it everytime and left it at that, one mother said something once and I said it is supposed to be armpit level...they just look at me. I am a young mother and that is probably the problem they don't want to listen to me...I don't know. :)

I got a 90%, I got the same one wrong as Melanie, since I didn't read the thread first. :)

By Heaventree on Saturday, March 19, 2005 - 07:51 pm:

I got 100%.

Ladies ask your husbands to take the test see if they are just as knowledgeable, I'm not sure my DH will score as high. I sure hope he does though!

That was fun! I got 100%! Since we just talked about the straps on a rear facing car seat the other day, I couldn't miss it! LOL! I would be in trouble if I missed any, wouldn't I Trina? LOL!:)
