More Potty Training advice..
from those who have BTDT.... Help!!! So, DD will be 2 in May and while she's still young, she's also old enough to be interested. I'm not going to enforce it but i'm going to introduce it on a regular daily basis. She knows the difference between "pee pee" and "poo poo" and about 90% of the times tells me when she goes. She will sit on her training toilet when I ask her if she has to go but absolutely will not go. If I sit her on the "big" toilet she says "pee pee" and grabs some toilet paper to "wipe". She has a potty training book and says "yay" and claps her hands when the girl in the book goes potty. She has the potty training Elmo but shes more interested in giving him his sippy cup than putting him on the toilet. If she pees and doesnt tell me she will take her diaper off, throw it away and bring me another one to put on her. She follows me to the bathroom when I go potty and is very interested. If I let her walk around naked she has no problem peeing on the kitchen floor though. .... These are all signs that shes interested but I just cant get her to go. Any advice?
Ask frequently and eventually she will tell you she has to go. Right now we are in the asking stage. Hailey will go but I have to remind her. She does best without a diaper on. Can you see any signs of her needign to go before she pees int he kitchen floor? If so, ask her when you see her (standing still for example or whatever she does to show you). Good Luck and it won't be long. Have you tried panties, Hailey does really good with panties on.
I can tell when she has to go because she either wants a diaper or she stands still. I ask her and she gives me a very stern "No!" so I ask again and after 3 or 4 times of asking and 10 minutes I just put her on the potty. She will sit and sit and sit and want to get up. As soon as she gets up she wants a diaper on and as soon as I put it on, she goes. She almost acts like its bad to go in the potty but when someone else goes its fun and interesting.
Maybe you could start by putting her on the potty with her diaper on and then taking it off. So she knows that is where she is supposed to go potty. Had she ever peed in the potty? It might only take one time of her peeing in the potty to let her see it doesn't hurt or anythng. The big potty might scare her, I bought a book for Katelyn when she first started using the potty and it had a button you push and it sounds like you flushed the toilet. That helped her not to be afraid of the noise. I didn't want to use the potty chair we bought her because when she peed it would go in the floor, (must have been defective). It may just take some time, she sounds like she doesn't like to be wet and that is a good sign. Is she around other older kids that might be an influence, Katelyn cheers Hailey on, but then again in the morning it is a race to the bathroom. We are definately going to have to get a potty chair!
Kaitlyn has the same potty book that makes the flushing noise. She likes it and she likes the flush our toilet. I guess over time she will get used to the fact of peeing in the potty. I think i'm going to have a dedicate a full day of constant water sippy cups, a naked DD and a potty chair and hopes she at least tries. I think once she actually goes the potty it will be a lot easier. Thanks for the advice.
My DD is the same exact way. She'll be 2 on Saturday. She likes the potty and loves to flush. But she will not go in it even when I know that she has to. The closest to any success we have had is some passed gas on the potty. I can get her to sit up there for quite a while and sing songs but she also waits to go in the diaper. Let me know if you come up with anything that works!
SHE WENT PEE-PEE IN THE TOILET TODAY!!!!! YAY!!!!! WTG KAITLYN!!!
Good job
Great!!!!! She just wanted you to post about her not going so she could prove you wrong...LOL
