When did you go to stage 3 foods with your babies

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive January-June 2005: When did you go to stage 3 foods with your babies

we don't go to the doctors till april for her 9 month check up , so i was wondering when you all went to stage 3 foods , my dd is gonna be 8 months on the 23 of this month.thank you

By Hlgmom on Saturday, March 5, 2005 - 01:20 pm:

we never used stage three! I did ones and twos till she was @ 9-10 mos. Then started some small table foods. It really depends on the child- how well they are doing with swallowing, chewing, etc. Take cues from her!

By Palmbchprincess on Saturday, March 5, 2005 - 01:59 pm:

I made my own baby food, so I don't really know what stage 3 is, but by 8 months or so you should have no problem giving her soft table food. I seem to think it was about 10 months that my kids started eating real table food (pasta, mini-sandwiches, etc) so I'm sure they were eating thick/chunky baby foods at 8 months.

Ditto the others. Never used Stage 3 foods. They ate baby friendly table food by then. Oh, I take that back. Actually we did occasionally use Stage 3 foods, but only when we were traveling and had to eat out often. They were convenient and restaurant food isn't always baby friendly.

We used stage 3 with Hailey when she was around 9 months. With Katelyn we just gave her table food around 9 months. I don't know why we kept Hailey on baby food longer, but we did.

My dd turned 8 months on the 2nd. I started Stage 3 foods about 3-4 weeks ago. I do not use many of them because there is a very limited selection and I don't like the large size of one food, plus they are pricey. My dd seems to really like the increased tecture.
I have also given her most soft table foods that we eat.
I think I will probably wean her from all the baby food soon and just let her eat table food.
The only warning from the MD was to be very careful with meats d/t the choking factor.

What sort of table food???

By Palmbchprincess on Saturday, March 5, 2005 - 11:13 pm:

Very soft carrots, green beans, stuff you are already feeding her, just not pureed. Small pieces of pancakes, eggs if your doctor says it's OK (apparently there is something to do with the MMR vaccine, I think) waffles cut into strips, usually they start out just mashing them up like teething biscuits. Toast, peaches, pears, bananas, whatever is in season and soft, or buy the canned fruit packed in fruit juice (NOT syrup!). If choking is a concern, you can buy a mesh feeder thing, Toys R Us carries them, you put the food in it, and the baby mashes it up through the mesh, so no large chunks get through. I've never used one, but some parents swear by them. Cherrios, honeycomb cereal, and other finger foods help dexterity. Basically, look at the stage 3 foods, and see what you can give your baby based on those selections. Instead of paying high prices for the jars, you can give the table food equivilent.

Never did stage 3 foods, either. I just started feeding them table food chopped into small pieces. I fed spaghetti to Sarah when she was 8 months old. I just cut into really small pieces. she loved it! otherwise, probably small pieces of banana, string cheese all cut up. Also, gave her cheerios, too.

By Mrsheidi on Sunday, March 6, 2005 - 02:10 pm:

Connor has 2 in the bottom and one up above on his upper left side. He started to get his first one when he was 6 1/2 mo.

Sarah had all kinds of teeth by 8 months. She started getting teeth at 5 months.

DD is 8 months old and we don't do stage 3 food. Infact we rarley give her baby food, she enjoys eating what we eat or if it's not something she can have I make her a seperate meal. Makes life much easier and she is doing a great job at feeding herself while we are eating.

By Kayleesmommy on Sunday, March 6, 2005 - 04:57 pm:

I just started giving Kaylee the stage 3 food and she does fine. She is a little over 8 months.

My dd 8mths doesn't have teeth yet either, but my ped said that it's the gums that do the chewing for quite some time anyway and not to worry about it. The first few teeth are made for biting, not chewing until the molars come, so the gums do most of the work. (That's what he said anyway). I was scared when If irst started giving her table food, worried about choking, but a few weeks ago she started really chewing her food with her gums. She chews everything now.

By Katiesmommy on Monday, March 7, 2005 - 09:29 am:

Katie will be 8 months on the 12th and I bought stage 3 foods this weekend. I am going to the expense b/c I am so worried about the choking factor. She only has 1 bottom tooth but I see she "chews" when I feed her and she has perfected her pincher grasp. I have been giving her biter biscuits and she does well with them. I have tried the small Gerber fruit puffs and she chokes on them b/c she puts the whole little piece in her mouth and tries to swallow it.

My girls had several teeth by the time they were 8 months old, like 6 of them..lol They started getting them around 3 or 4 months. I have heard they will fall out sooner or whatever but I guess I really couldn't control when their teeth came in. :) I babysat a little girl and she was 10 months old with no teeth, it was so cute.
