Kidney Stones
I am worried that my dd may have a kidney stone, has anyone experienced this? I have had a kidney stone and it is very painful. My dd does not want to use the bathroom and when she does she barely makes it. She pees in the bathroom floor in front of the toilet. I am worried but do not want to take her to the ER tonight, I think I may wait until the morning. Any advice, my BIL told me to give her plenty of water and juices. I looked at her urine in the floor and I thought I seen a tiny (threadlooking, maybe 1/4 or less of an inch) bit of blood. I am worried, I may take her in tonight if she does that anymore. I don't know what else it could be other than a kidney stone, she doesn't have a fever or any other signs of an illness only the urination.
I would think more likely it is a urinary tract infection. You can try making it through the night but I would probably call her ped and see what they think. If you live in a major metro and a pharmacy is still open they may choose to prescribe something without having to go to the ER. It really depends on your doc. But urgency and pain on peeing really screams UTI to me. If she pees blood that also is a big red flag for a UTI. Try cranberry juice, straight if she will drink it, blend if she wont and get her into the doc. I would think that kidney stones would be more likely in an adult, not a kid. GL let us know what happens
I'm assuming you are talking about Kaitlyn - poor baby. I agree, a UTI is more likely. BTDT and they are very painful when they get bad, and the urgency and not making it is typical. Lots of liquids, yes, cranberry juice (straight or dilute) yes, and get her to the doctor. A quick urine specimen will give them some immediate idea and if they think it is likely they will probably start her on antiobiotics right away while they send the sample out for a culture. If it is a UTI, could it be from her not wiping carefully after a BM, wiping in the "wrong" direction? Let us know what happens, please. She has my deep sympathy and, of course, so does her worried mom.
I'm sorry.. yes I am talking about Katelyn. She has really been downing the water for the past little while. And I am glad. She has had a problem once before and I took her to her doctor and she said it was most likely because she wipes wrong, and so I started working with her even more about it and she has been doing it correctly (at least when I go with her). But I assume it would only take one moment or incident of "forgetting" and she would get a UTI. I have the medicine that numbs the area when she pees, so that is good (but it tastes aweful), I am going to give that to her tonight and call them 1st thing in the morning and see when we can get in to see her doc. I will keep you guys informed.
It does sound like a UTI or kidney infection. Jen had one when she was 2 y/o that made her SO sick - temp of 106!!!!! Definitely take her in. Let us know!
Let us know how it goes today. Hope she will be better soon.
How is she doing, Candis? Hope she's feeling better. Ame
I had one UTI about 7 years ago and I remember the pain like it was yesterday! I am also as we speak getting over a kidney infection. First one in my life. I can say that although the symptoms in me were not anything like the symptoms of a UTI, it was SEVERLY painful none the less. If she is having half the pain that I had with wither one, I wouldn't wait to take her to the doctor. I was completely miserable with each of them! I hope she is feeling better soon!
Actually she is feeling better today, it is amazing. I am watching her but I believe she is doing great. I am going to see how today goes. she looked at me and said pray for me mom and since then has been doing alot better. Kids are so cute. Thanks for asking about her. She has drank alot of water and ate some yogurt. She still has an appetite, she had all of her lunch, and still no fever or any other things wrong with her, so we'll see.
Hi Candis, glad to hear that Katelyn is doing better.
I am glad that Katelyn is doing better.
