Toothpast e question?
This is totally silly but I just had to ask. I will buy the kids toothpaste but from time to time we run out. The dk's 4 and 6 will use the adult toothpaste. If they don't rinse and spit right away. My dk's will say the toothpaste is burning there mouth. It just seems so weird to me. I use that toothpaste every day and it does not burn my mouth! My dd will jump up and down and swear its burning her mouth. Now please don't think I am mean to them it obviously is not that bad they don't refuse to use it. I just had to ask if anyone elses kids say this?
It depends on the flavor. Mint will certainly feel like it's burning their mouth. Most kid toothpastes are horribly fruity or bubble gum-ish and not at ALL refreshing like all adult toothpastes are. Also, an adult PASTE is more minty than an adult GEL. So it depends on what you have! *I* favor an adult mint paste and my kids canNOT tolerate it and I don't blame them. It burns MY mouth, too, if I don't rinse quickly enough.
My girls use the bubble gum flavor and I have ran out before and she leaves her mouth open and breathes heavy trying to get it to cool down. I think we are just so use to it that we don't notice it...I have, however, used their toothpaste to see what it was like and I had to re-brush my teeth with regular tooth paste because they just didn't feel clean..lol
That is a good point Candis that I just might be used to it. Because it does not burn my mouth. I also agree to that I think they are getting old enough that there mouths could use or need the adult stuff. I usually just stand there with cup in hand so they can rinse right away. I just was wondering if my dk's were the only drama queens! LOL!
My girls don't care for the bubble gum flavor, and they don't like the adult mint either. I came across AquaFresh Bubble Mint. Its still sweet but not so icky sweet, and it has a mild minty freshness. My oldest DD (6) says her teeth feel way better with this, and it gives her "colder" breath, and younger DD brushes better than ever. I take these opinions very seriously as this is a non-character toothpaste, and IMO if its chosen over, Dora, Princess, Spiderman or Jimmy Neutron it must be good stuff!
LOL Beth, yours are certainly not the only drama queens! My kids make the same complaint when I run out of their toothpaste.
Emily used the Kids Crest for years. She is now 12 and finally able to tolerate minty adult toothpaste. She also didn't like how it made her mouth feel.
Normal Crest is not terribly minty. Maybe you could switch to that as a kind of trainer toothpaste.
I thought my kids were bizarre for hating mint toothpaste! I guess we'll just wait out the mint aversion.
Mint Crest is what I use. My younger dd hated it for the longest time.
Beth, they can just brush with water if you run out. Most of the benefit from brushing is just the action of the brush rubbing the teeth. The toothepaste tastes good and delivers a bit of flouride but thats about it.
DD says all of the toothpastes (except the Oral-B one with the teddy bear on the front) burns her mouth. Even the children ones with Disney princesses or Strawberry Shortcake burn her mouth. And she wouldn't use those until the past month or so. There was one I bought at the Dollar General Store with a dinosaur on it that didn't burn her. But our dentist said that brushing with water was just fine. It gets most of the gunk and "sugar bugs" off. It's just us that think we have to have the mint to make us feel fresh. So when we run out I just let her brush with a plain brush for a day or so until we can get to the store. At 4 no cavities yet.
