Ahhh school is back in session

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive January-June 2005: Ahhh school is back in session
By Kaye on Tuesday, January 4, 2005 - 05:38 pm:

AS much as I like sleeping in and hanging out with the kids. I also am glad to have them back in normal routines. Dinner at the right time, bedtimes etc. But now we are home from school and we all have HOMEWORK! You would think that they have all been banished from all things good. My oldest who is usually a big pain is working well, my boys on the other hand, are acting like they are being tortured. My 3rd grader came home with an assignment sheet. He normally does not have homework. The assignment sheets are things that you don't finish in class. It says do pages 114-115, 116-117 and have your mom check it. Well, first story is I ALREADY did those pages. So sorry, but it won't hurt to redo them. So after a little fit (stomping, crying, flipping through his book, etc), he quickly does pages 114-116. I mean it takes him less than 5 minutes. The last page has him writing 6 sentences he has now pitched almost a 30 minute fit. He claims that he is not supposed to do that page, he never does. I go on to explain that well now he is half way through, things change. Whether he wants to or not, the teacher specifically wrote it down and it will be done..LOL Oh wait he has brought me his paper....the sentences are three word sentences...oh well. I love homework..NOT@

I feel your pain! My second grader is in fits lately when she has to do any writing. Why is homework as much work for us as it is for the kids? :)

I am feeling your pain! Plus I let the kids slack on their Thank You notes so they have to get those by the new deadline of Wed. eve.

And it doesnt get any better. I have an almost 16 yo that I almost have to beat to get him to do his homework. Sigh.....

Kids, 15 and 12, both doing homework in the living room while we listen to music and I take ornaments off the tree. No one is fighting! It's nice!

My dks go back to school tomorrow and I can't wait! They have been driving me nuts the past few days. They both told me today that they are glad that school is starting back. They have missed going. Their winter break was from Dec 17-Jan5. Way too long!!!

By Dawnk777 on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 - 07:08 am:

Ours was only Dec. 22nd until Jan. 3rd. Longer probably wouldn't be better, although, Emily got 2 extra days because of her surgery. She was bouncing off the walls yesterday, so it's a good thing she is going back today.

My dks were off from the day before Thanksgiving until January 3rd. I can tell you from personal experience that longer is NOT better! :) They are so bored and irritable with that long of a break from routine and interaction with their school friends. Both are back in school today and I'm really enjoying my nice quiet house!

Your kids were off the whole month of December? Do you have year-round school? That would be a long time. My kids would have been bored silly!

By Tink on Thursday, January 6, 2005 - 12:21 am:

Yep, we are year-round here and they were! And, apparently, the cool thing to do when you are a bored child, is to see how creatively you can irritate the nearest sibling!

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, January 6, 2005 - 07:40 am:

Oh fun. NOT! My kids snark at each other often enough, but since Emily's surgery, they have been really nice to each other. It's been nice. I'm sure it won't last, though.

So funny. My girlfriend say that he son had been off ofr two or three weeks.

I reminded her that it was only a week. It felt like two or three weeks with the husbands off as well.
