But, he is almost five

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive July-December 2004: But, he is almost five
By Cakekisses324 on Saturday, November 20, 2004 - 05:20 pm:

My dss still wears goodnites because he tends to have frequent accidents, (and this is with no drinks after 5pm, and frequent trips to the potty) He will be 5 in February. This morning he informs me that he poopooed in his goodnite in the middle of the night. Does anyone find this odd? He is going on 5, and it seems very bizarre to me. His 2 brothers are both in diapers, one is disabled(he is 9) and the other is an eight mo. old. His sister is 6, and never did this. Just curious, (keep in mind, he is the 'baby' at his moms) Not to say we dont give him special attention here-we give each one special attention. I am just concerned, and I hope he will grow out of this.

My ds will be 6 in January and he JUST started to stay dry at night. Dr. said it's still normal at night until 5 or 6.

He might have a small bladder. My relatives son is the same at five. One poopee accident wouldn't concern me.

I can't really remember how old my ds was when he stopped pooping in the middle of the night. I am guessing around 4. It was because he had problems with constipation since he was born. At night was the only time I guess his body was relaxed enough. He really could not help it. Maybe in this one instance this is what happened to your son. I mean if it happened frequently you may have something to worry about. I knew what my sons problem was and I encouraged him to try his best to go number 2 during the day as best he could. He finally grew out of it. As far as the wetting I think his bladder is just still not mature enought yet. YOu could just check with the doctor next time you go.

There is a possiblity it could be a larger problem like enuresis. I would talk to his Dr. about it. There are other physiological reasons for this as well, including recurrent bladder infections that could lead to more serious urinary tract problems. I would have him checked just to rule out any physical problems
