Bad Breath

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive July-December 2004: Bad Breath

I've noticed in the last week or so DD has been waking up with so nasty morning breath. Shes 18 months old now. I read online that its normal but I just want to see if some of you remember when your DK's started having morning breath or bad breath in general. I brush her teeth twice daily with the Orajel training toothpaste so i'm guessing its just the normal morning breath.

Is it just when she wakes up or throughout the day? If it is just when she wakes up, then I wouldn't worry about it. If it is during the day, then it could be caused by several things. Is she cutting new teeth? I noticed that when my oldest ds cut some of his teeth, he had bad breath. My ped. said it was because of dried blood where they were coming through. Also, when my ds's have allergy problems and drainage they also have bad breath.

If your daughter has any kind of sinus drainage from a bad cold it can cause bad breath. I have also heard that milk can also cause horriblebreath in children sometimes (even after brushing). My daughter had awful breath and then we found out she had tonsilitis (spelling?)

She is cutting a few teeth right now. I just got done brushing her teeth and noticed her throat is bright red so 'im thinking we'll be making a trip to the dr. She hasn't had any signs of being sick of feverish. Her bad breath I usually only notice in the morning when I grab her out of bed. And everytime she brushes her teeth, I ask to smell her breath when shes done and praise her for brushing them and I never notice bad breath then.

If her throat is red, I would take her to the doctor and see what he/she says about it.
