Advice on double strollers?

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive July-December 2004: Advice on double strollers?
By Echo on Friday, November 12, 2004 - 06:48 pm:

My friend is having a baby in April and her son will be 3 in July. I have a 15-month-old and am planning on trying for #2 within the next year so I'm wondering the same thing. We've asked around and every person we talked to seems to HATE their double strollers, but there doesn't seem to be any other options. Does anyone have one that they really love? Or are there any other suggestions?

Thanks

I liked my double stroller. I had the one-behind-the-other type, not side by side. It was a little awkward to maneuver but it was much easier than letting the older one walk. My best friend had one that let her older child stand behind the baby's seat or sit on a flip down seat. She hated it. Her older child never wanted to stand and said the seat was hard and uncomfortable. When she had her youngest, I gave her my old stroller because it was so great for me. She loves it now, too!

I had a Graco double stroller, since my older daughter was only 2-1/2 when Emily was born. I thought it was a great thing. Yes, it was a little bulkier than a single stroller, but sometimes, it was just easier to be able to haul them both at once.

My stroller was similar to these.

I have a side by side & it would be great if you could get it to fit in the lanes at the store, some doorways, ect. I really wish that I would have gotten the type that Cori had. The one I do have is great for walks & things of that nature though.

We've had both, and Graco's duo glider is the one we use regularly. It's an affordable tandem, and pretty easy to use.

I have had a front and back seat type, but I hated it, it was real hard to get around corners, well, now I have a side by side and I love it, it is like an umberella stroller except double so it folds up compactly.

It is the Jeep Wrangler Twin Sport and my girls love it too. Good Luck I hope you find one that you and your friend like, everyone is different, but I had to go with what fits best in the car and light and easy to set up, it is a great investment and under $90 you can't beat it! :)

I had a long double, and loved it.
When I was working in daycare we had long ones and side by side. The side by sides were ok, but a pain in the butt to get in doors.
If you want one for doing lots of outside things, the Baby Jogger Twinner is great! I've heard it works well inside, too, but haven't tried it myself. They make such light strollers, and they're very easy to manouver.

I had a Graco duo-glider. I'm not going to say i loved it. Because it was like pushing a train around, and was a pain in the butt to get into the car but fine to get into the SUV. But it worked. When you have a toddler and a baby, there really is no other choice than to get a double stroller. I was also used to having a cup holder and a big basket underneath in my single stroller...but my double didn't have those. They may have them nowadays though.

I never had a side by side, but i'm guessing it would be a pain in the butt. Too wide at the mall to walk in between clothes racks...a little one is alway inclined to grab the clothes as you go buy. I would think it would be hard to get through doorways too.

BTW, my side by side is like an umbrealla, not suitable for babies. And it doesn't fit anywhere. The new Duo-Gliders have baskets and cupholders. It is a bit more of a pain to get into a car than an SUV, but not too bad. There are a couple doubles that are much lighter and get better reviews, but they were all out of my price range. Try checking twins sites, they all have reviews of double strollers.

I have both a Graco duo-glider and a side by side umbrella stroller. When my youngest was very little I loved the duo-glider. I was able to fully recline her seat and keep my oldest in front so she could see what was going on. It was pretty easy to get around the mall (except for the stores that pack the clothes in so you can barely walk). I am a pretty small person and I never had trouble handling the duo-glider. When my daugters got older I bought a side by side umbrella (more for the theme parks, short walks in the neighborhood). It is okay, but not that comfortable for them and I have always had a hard time getting it through door ways (I pretty much would have to back in to doors so that the wheels would not swivel and get stuck in the door way. I also use the umbrella stroller if we only have a limited amount of space in the back of the caravan (if we were packed up for a trip or something). Otherwise I just kept the duoglider in the back of my caravan for everyday use. We used to have small car and the duo-glider never fit in its trunk.

I had twins the first time and have a Graco Duo Glider & couldn't have gotten around without it. We just kept it in the trunk of our Taurus until the 3rd came and then we got a mini-van Unfortunatly they don't come in three or an add on attachment now I haul 2 strollers one for twins and one for the singleton.

Thanks for all the info. I think I'll take Palm's advice and check out a couple twin websites. We've both decided on the tandem but now the question of which brand. I'll try looking at some reviews. Thanks again.

I had one of those long ones where both seats faced inward - facing each other - and I HATED it. Of course, this was a long time ago now.
