Well we were up again all night with the fever, it got up to 104 and then back down but as soon as the Motrin wears off he's burning back up. We have a 2:00 appointment with the doctor my sister takes her kids to.

I'm really getting worried, he's not eating well at all, and he's lethargic now... 1:00 can't come soon enough for me to leave to go. He's alseep in my bed right now so I'm going to go snuggle up with him and hold him and try to get some rest with him.

By Vicki on Thursday, October 28, 2004 - 11:56 am:

Was he ever tested for strep?

By Emily7 on Thursday, October 28, 2004 - 12:03 pm:

He is in my thoughts.

By Trina~moderator on Thursday, October 28, 2004 - 12:07 pm:

Poor kiddo! I agree with Vicki. Further testing needs to be done. Perhaps even bloodwork. Hope he's better soon!

By Missmudd on Thursday, October 28, 2004 - 12:15 pm:

Please let us know, glad you are taking him to your sisters ped. GL I know that this can really be stressful, all you want to do is make him better.

By Tink on Thursday, October 28, 2004 - 12:15 pm:

I don't mean to worry you, Christy, but the way you are describing your son sounds like my ds about a year and a half ago and he ended up having pneumonia. High fever, lethargic, lack of appetite, sore throat and a cough. We took him into the ER at 10:00 and at 3:00am they tried to send us home without a chest x-ray. I insisted and it turned out that he had double pneumonia and was in the hospital for 6 days. It would have been much better if I'd insisted on treatment when I took him to the on-call doc 4 days before. Let us know how his appointment goes.

By My2cuties on Thursday, October 28, 2004 - 12:33 pm:

Ditto Cori, except my dd had the chest x-ray in the ER and we found out right away. I hope things go better for you than it did for us. We spent Christmas at home last year, and noone got a visit from us, due to dd having pneumonia. (((HUGS))) It is most definitely not fun to be sick this time of year. Let us know how things go.

By Amecmom on Thursday, October 28, 2004 - 01:06 pm:

Hope all goes well. Sending prayers that he feels better soon.

Poor guy. Let us know how he's doing later.

By Vicki on Thursday, October 28, 2004 - 05:37 pm:

Did you find anything out at the dr's?? Thinking of him and hope he is feeling better!!

By Christylee on Thursday, October 28, 2004 - 11:30 pm:

Thanks for the well wishes everyone... We ended up at Texas Children's emergency room with 104.4 fever shortly after I posted my last post. I took his temp. and called the new doctor and he said to take him to the ER... So mom met me up there and we were seen pretty quickly, I'm FUMING over what they found wrong.

My baby has an ear infection, an infection so bad that his eardrum was close to rupturing. The doctor said she HIGHLY doubts this is new since Monday and should have been seen on Monday, she also said that Albuterol was/is not what he needs to be on and has done nothing for him (I already knew that) and I've also been giving him the wrong dosage on the motrin because I was going by what that doctor on Monday told me.

I'm seriously considering making a formal complaint about the doctor I saw on Monday, based on today's ER visit and our conversation the other day.

Anyways, Brendan's had one dosage of antibotics and is doing a little better already because I'm able to keep the fever down already with the new dosage and the alternating with the tylenol.

Thanks for all the well wishes and prayers for us. You guys are great!

I am sorry for what you had to go through, but very happy that you found out what was wrong and he is on the road to getting better.

By Kate on Friday, October 29, 2004 - 08:59 am:

I'm so glad he's finally on the way to recovery and it was caught before any more damage was done. I would definitely make a formal complaint. Will the new doc or ER docs help you with this?

By Missmudd on Friday, October 29, 2004 - 11:24 am:

Boy I sure am sorry, I owe you an apology, I hope that I didnt stear you wrong :( I am glad that your little guy is on the road to recovery.

By Emily7 on Friday, October 29, 2004 - 11:34 am:

I would also file.
I am glad he is getting the meds he needs.

By Rayanne on Friday, October 29, 2004 - 11:43 am:

I'm glad that he is getting better. ((((HUGS))))

By Amecmom on Friday, October 29, 2004 - 03:14 pm:

Glad he's doing better, but just to let you know, an ear infection can come on suddenly and turn toxic in as little as 24 hours. My ped is excellent. I had my son in on a Monday and he found nothing wrong. On Tuesday morning, there was pus coming out of my son's ear. It can literally happen overnight. Unless your doc has a history of misdiagnosis or you just dont like him/her, then I would think a little more about filing a complaint. Just a thought from my own experience ...

I also wouldn't be too quick to file something against this doctor. As Amecmom said, ear infections can come on very quick and to be honest, I am surprised the that the ER doctor had that to say about the other doctor. Also, when you did call that dr and told him/her that the fever was still there, he/she did call in the antibiotic for you to start. As I said in my response on the other post, I bet he/she did that because the fever lasted for so long. Sometimes, virus's can either lead to secondary infections, or settle some where (such as in the ear) and cause an infection that does require and antibiotic. I really don't think anyone did anything "wrong" in this case. Just maybe things should have been done differently. In any case, I am glad he is getting the medicine he needs!!

By Karen~moderator on Friday, October 29, 2004 - 08:24 pm:

Christy, when Jeff was an infant, his eardrum burst twice from infection. That isn't as uncommon as you might think. When they are young, it heals well. I'm sorry he's so sick, hope he feels better soon!

By Tink on Friday, October 29, 2004 - 08:48 pm:

Bella has also had ear infections that led to burst eardrums. Some children are just more prone to this. Her ears were fine at a well-baby check just 4 days before and, by the time I took her in to the ped's office, one had ruptured and the other was also infected. I'm really sorry that he is sick and it was so difficult to get him treated correctly.

By My2cuties on Saturday, October 30, 2004 - 10:06 am:

I am so sorry to hear that, but I am glad he is getting better already. I hope you guys have a good weekend and he gets better fast. :)

By Cat on Saturday, October 30, 2004 - 01:53 pm:

How's he feeling today? We went through LOTS of ear infections when mine were little. Not fun. Hugs to you both.
