I am almost embarrassed posting this
Oh My goodness, today has got to be the last time...my 16 month old dd is really getting to me about this. At naptime, she decides to have a bm, that's fine, but it is not until she wakes up that it is noticed, and all over her bed. I have to put pants on her to keep her out of her diaper, but today she has found out how to get to it anyway. I am really embarrassed sharing this but I have no other choice I am really having a hard time. As most know I am pregnant and very sick alot and this is not helping. I finally threw the one pair of sheets out today. She is very quiet and I don't even know she is awake and she is in her room playing with her poop...gross!! Anyway, I guess I just wanted to ask for some advice that I have not thought of maybe. Sorry if this grossed anyone out. I am desperate for some ideas of what to do. TIA
You are not alone. So many moms go thru this. Have you tried over all type clothes? Maybe you can put her into footy jammies and make sure she has plenty of air to keep from getting hot (we're in FL, and it is still hot w/ AC running now). Taking the time for footy jams is a lot less effort than cleaning poop. Babies like the sensation of poop. Also, I would suggest buying some playdough and have supervised dough time to let her get that same squishy feeling....and playdough smells so much better!!!
I haven't gone through this with mine (yet!) but I've heard putting the diaper on backwards can foil a child, at least for a little while. On the other hand, maybe introduce her to the potty? Not toilet train, just introduce, I've heard of a few moms who regard diaper diving a clear sign that a kid's getting ready to toilet train.
My friend used the reverse diaper thingy, along with duct tape and it worked. DD is 17 months and i'm not going through this with her. Every time Dad changes her diaper he says "Eeewwwww" so everytime she poops she tells me Eeewww so I will change it. Good luck to you!
I have thought about the potty, because most nights lately she has woke up dry and when she is wet or "dirty" for that matter she takes her diaper off, I think I will invest in some overalls or whole piece outfits for napping in though, for the meantime. What a deal..my 3 year old never did this, until she was closer to 20 months. Oh Brother!!
Would a onsie & the pants help?
My ds did this too! If you look around, there is a post from just a few weeks ago with a whole list of moms who have had to deal with this or who did it themselves! You certainly aren't alone. Onesies, overall, and sleepers didn't stop my ds. We finally had to resort to duct tape. We also found out, after it wasn't an issue, that this is almost always a sensory issue. So load up on shaving cream for playing in the bathtub, play-doh, and fingerpaint or pudding. Honestly, don't be embarrassed by ANYTHING your dss do! Someone here has had a child do the same thing.
BTDT!!! Nothing you can do really until they outgrow it. Bobbie had mentioned putting duct tape on DS's diaper when he went through that stage... not a bad idea really!!! (((Hugs))) most of us know how you feel!!!!
Yes, Duct tape is a must. LOL two reasons, they can't get it loose and it doesn't require buying new clothes. I just kept a roll with the bag of diapers. And when it was time for bed, nap or at night I would take a couple of turns around the velcro/waste area and wha la no more poop painting. Three of my four kids thought this was a great way to pass the time. DS (middle child) I struggled with how to deal with this too. The girls I had duct tape down to a fine science, as soon as they started showing issues with removal of the diaper out it came. The onses and uni suits only worked for a short time, DS figured out how to pull his diaper off with out having to unbutton the snaps. And the only other thing I found that works is a diaper pin (the kind that latches shut and has to be manipulated to open) through the zipper of a footy jammy. But DS would still end up with the diaper down one leg of his pants even then. He could work the velcro even through his clothes. But not with the duct tape on it.. LOL Best of luck...
My son also decided yesterday for the first time to put his hands in his diaper. He said he just wanted to check (I guess to see if he was "poopy"). After a bath and a lot of reinforcement, I hope he won't do it again. What kind of diapers are you using? This was a pull up that he could get into easily. Pampers Cruisers can be put on very tight because they have elastic. This way, the child is comfortable, but can't reach in unless he or she takes the diaper off. Good luck! But - if she's having BMs at predictable times, start putting her on the potty!!! Ame
I used backwards onsies and considered duct tape. Didn't get that far because we put him in a bed and then it stopped. The ability to get up and tell me he was awake was very helpful and didn't leave time for "boredom and exploration!"
Sounds like she could be ready for the potty!
Thanks for all the ideas, the duct tape is hilarious, but if you moms say it I will try it. Oh my, I figure I will buy a potty chair within the next few weeks and let her "try it out". Thanks for all the support I don't feel like such a loner now. I will be off to the store to get some play-do in the morning...lol
