Describe Teething Cough...

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive July-December 2004: Describe Teething Cough...
By Amyk on Wednesday, October 6, 2004 - 10:18 am:

Hey there -

My 13mo is teething and has started to cough the past couple of days - seems to be increasing - It is a hacking kind of cough - like if you had something caught in your throat... he is not drooling much - so I'm wondering if his cough is teething related or something else...

Any thoughts?

Thanks
Amy

My kids never had a cough when they were teething.

Good luck though!

I have never experienced a cough with either of my kids teething.
Let us know what you find out.

Well...this is highly debated, but some say that kids get runny noses etc when they are teething. If that is the case, I could see how drainage could cause a cough...how ever, I don't recall that ever happening with my dd either. With the time of year it is right now, I would say it is most likely a cold or other form of illness rather than from the teething.

Teething and runny nose? Yes.
Coughing? No.
My dd at about 14 months was diagnosed with asthma. Hers is seasonal with her allergies. Allergies flair up, runny nose, then about 4 days into it the cough starts that gets worse and worse. Albuterol in a nebulizer is the only thing that stops the cough. The day our family practitioner saw it, she diagnosed it immediately. (the dr has asthma, too). She had walked into the exam room, took one look at her, stepped out and ordered the nurse to get her a breathing treatment immediately. DD was in my arms coughing horribly and as the treatment started, I could feel her relax in my arms as she began to breathe easier. It was very traumatic at the time and almost makes me cry now. But we got a breathing machine that day with the medicine to put in it. But the blessing is that at 3 1/2 dd has just about grown out of it. She hasn't had a treatment now in about 6 months.

Have it checked out asap.

Emma never coughed either, but she's extremely fussy. Also, you might want to just call your dr. I would maybe try to see if a little benadryl would help.

How's the cough? How's he doing?

By Amyk on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 - 06:35 am:

Oh, thanks for asking! His cough has subsided -but still congested, etc. We are thinking allergies as my DH and I are both experiencing the same thing. He's also teething in a major way.

Thanks!

Amy
