I taught Alexis how to say eat in sign language, and she knows what it means!!! It's made figuring out when she's hungry a lot easier.
Too cool! How old is she now? I teach the little ones words like more, milk, please and thankyou. Every little bit helps.
She's just turned 13 months, I she knew how to make the sign after just a few minutes, but it took her a day or so to learn what the sign means. I'll be working on please and thank you soon, but I want her to be saying eat on a regular basis first.
That's so exciting! Are you doing Baby Sign? I wish I knew about it when DD was a baby. It seems so handy!
COOL!!! I heard about that when Rylee was about 7 months old. I know that it's never too late to start.
I've never heard of Baby Sign, my mom just told me about a study on preverbal babies who learn the signs for things tend to be happier, so I'm trying to teach her the few signs I know that will be usefull to her.
i'm a sign language interpreter and i taught my daughter sign right away and now her vocabulary is awesome! tired, hungry, cookie, mommy, daddy, turtle, movie, eat, drink, bottle, milk.nite nite,go store, go park, play now, please thank you ,bath time, etc. etc. and shes only 19 months old. we started signing to her right away and by 6mo she was signing alot! it never too late to start!! have fun with it i even taught my in-laws and parents to sign too! wish i could help u guys learn sign. i could try to discribe the sign to u if u want and find a good web site
That is incredible! I wish I had known about babies signing much earlier. I can understand why children that can sign are happier. They can communicate!!! Can you imagine how frustrating that is? Congratulations, Melana, that is a great skill to be teaching your dd. Brianna, I am so jealous! Our colleges accept ASL classes as language credits so I can't wait to take the classes. On top of the functionality of it, it really is beautiful.
Great idea! AJ
