I think my youngest has asthma too
My oldest DS was diagnosed with asthma when he was 11 months old due to the fact he would be wheezing after crawling down the hall. My youngest son has reflux and recurrent croup which he gets 4-6 times a year. He also has a chronic cough and a hoarse voice. He's also been having wheezy episodes that aren't croup. I was going to try to take him in to the doctor next week, but here I am at 12:30 am waiting for the pediatrician on call to call me back. He is very tight and wheezy, can't take a deep breath, and is crying and starting to panic. I have used my other son's albuterol inhaler on him once, but I think I'm in for a long night. He's calmed for now and breathing better. We recently ran out of the albuterol ampules for the nebulizer so I am hoping the doc will call in a prescription to one of the 24 hour pharmacies. I really don't want to end up in the ER on a Sat. night.
I'm so sorry, Pam. I have very little experience with asthma but I'm still sorry that you are having to deal with it. The ER on Saturday nights should be listed as one of the seven circles of hell.
I'm sorry Pam. Poor little guy.
Pam, I'm so sorry, and I KNOW what you are going through! Jason and Jen both suffered that way when they were young. There's nothing more frightening than seeing your child having trouble getting air!!!!!! If I had seen this earlier, I would have suggested sitting in the bathroom with him, letting the shower run on hot, sometimes the steam helps open them up. I spent many a night doing that. How is he this morning??? Were you able to get any meds called in? {{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}
{{{Pam}}} How did it turn out last night?? I have so BTDT with DS. Very scary and unsettling. Hope your DS is OK!
I'm sorry you had such a bad and worrisome night. How is he doing now?
Pam how is everything?
Thanks for the hugs and concern. He is much better now. The ped on call did phone a prescription for albuterol in w/o having to see him or send us to the ER---thank goodness! I think they could tell that we had BTDT many times over. The medicine opened him up and he was able to breathe better and have a more productive cough. I'm probably going to keep up the breathing tx for the next 24 hours and then we'll go see the doctor tomorrow.
Pam, I'm glad you got some medicine last night! I'm sure you are all breathing much better now.
{{{Pam}}} My DS who is 10 has asthma so I know what you are going through. Thank God DD who is 4 has never had a problem.
I am glad the treatment is working. It is great to have a ped that recognizes you know what you are talking about.
Pam, I'm glad your ds is doing some better today. Please keep us updated.
My oldest son gets this. He was on Flovent and Zyrtec until June. He has been med free (and no croup) since then. He actually has had a few colds since then, but they haven't blown up. Did you try the shower? That always works well....
It's always something. Oldest DS woke me up from a dead sleep early this morning saying "coffin." I was like "what!??!" and he said it again. I told him he wasn't making any sense (keep in mind I was hard at sleep, exhausted from the previous night) and finally he wheezed out "I'm coughing." Poor baby he couldn't get enough breath to say the whole phrase. Needless to say, he had a breathing tx before school and has his inhaler in his backpack. Both boys have appts for 2:15 today with the ped.
