Vomiting no fever?

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive July-December 2004: Vomiting no fever?
By Maryg on Wednesday, September 29, 2004 - 08:04 pm:

My six year old son has been vomiting about once a day.

He has congestion and headache, but no fever.

I took him to the doctor, and he said it was allergies and gave me nose spray and Zrytec (spelling?)

I could have sworn he had sinusitis, but the doctor said no. Strep came out negative too.

He's missed three days of school, and I'm hoping the nose spray and the Zrytec will help, but I'm not sure if he can keep it down long enough.

My son usually has allergies in the spring, but never the vomiting issue. Has anyone heard of such a thing?

Sometimes the drainage into the stomach causes vomiting.

My three year old grandson started Sunday with sneezing and a runny nose. He has allergic rhinitis about this same time every year. As is his usual pattern, he has now started having a cough. Yesterday he vomited a little, but it happened when he had a coughing attack shortly after eating. Today he has seemed fine except for the cough. I also agree with Laura that drainage can cause vomiting.

Drainage CAN cause vomiting. You can tell if it is sinusitis if it is green.(sinus inf.)
If its clear, its not an infection, just drainage, or a cold. Im not a Dr.(heehee), but I worked at an ENT, for 5yrs, and we had to learn about diagnosis', and symptons, and meds. Zyrtec is good stuff. Claritin is pretty awesome too. They used to call out for that alot, and now its overthecounter...Even better! Good Luck! Did they give him anything FOR vomiting?

My DS who is 10 has allergies has done this so many time...I think its just all the drainage and such that get down in their stomach.
My son is on Allegra seems to be doing ok with it...he has been on Zyrtec, Claritin and for him the Allegra seems to be working the best.
DS missed alot of school last year because of this,,,hopefully this year will be better.
Good luck and I hope your DS will feel better soon. I have been dealing with allergies and asthma since my DS was very young and its not a fun thing.

DD has the same issue. And she is on Zyrtec and the nose spray too. They both seem to be helping a lot. You can tell if we forget to use the nose spray though. Nasal drainage can cause nausea. Best of luck to both of ya. Aren't seasonal allergies the best?? NOT

Ditto on allergies and drainage to the stomach. We use Claritan. I think it is over the counter these days. AJ
