Baby Food Stages
OK need help here. Jade is 7 months old and has 2 bottom teeth and 1 top tooth she is on Stage 2 foods. When will she go to stage 3 and when can she start having things like cheerios and other more solid stuff. I cannot remember thanks ladies.
I would just watch for her chewing. I never followed the stages thing (I was a mash-what's-on-my-plate-and-feed-that-to-the-baby kind of mom). They got more solid stuff as I noticed them trying to chew more. I'd try it and if things went okay they got more. My honest opinion is that the stages thing is excellent marketing, an okay guideline but it's best to go with what you know of your own baby's skills and readiness.
Start with 1/2 a cheerio and see how that goes. My oldest did just fine with cheerios and crackers shortly after 6 months. My next DD had a hard time with the cheerios until about 9 months. She just couldn't figure out how to chew them. They would all end up being spit out in confusion LOL Every baby is so different! I don't remember the stages in baby foods. Is three the ones that have the small chunks in them? Goodness, I just don't remember when my DK's started on things like that. We kind of just took it one day at a time.
Rylee is 10 months and almost has 8 teeth and is still on stage 2 food ONLY because the stage 3 is too much for her. I do give it to her sometimes and only use half of the jar. She just started eating Cheerios too. The doctor gave me my ok. If anything, call them. You could use your own judgement too. There are the little finger foods you could also buy that practically melt in the babies mouths that you could buy.
Don't do stage three foods. Take my word for it. Emma is 1 year old. She is a very picky eater, but she will eat cheerios, cheese, lunch meat, apple sauce, nutra grain bars, raisins (I roll them so they're softer), and graham crackers. But she still chokes everytime I try to give her 3rd foods. I think it's confusing to them. They're used to the stuff in a spoon being able to be swallowed without chewing, then suddenly you give them a spoonful of food with chunks that they're supposed to swallow. I don't think it makes since to my dd anyway. Actually for supper Emma won't eat any table food especially veggies, so I'm still giving her 2nd foods veggies and oatmeal for supper. Her peditrician said that was fine as long as I keep offering her table foods. For future reference the gerber graduates are just a huge waste of money...for me anyway. The best thing for dd was the fruit and veggie puffs. I gave her those when she only had 2 teeth. Now she has 6. Good luck. Holly
See with Timmy he ate the stage 3 and the finger food stuff. they were great when we were going somewhere and even when he was eating alone and trying to be independant. I just for the life of me cannot remember when he started on all of it. I guess when I go to the store this weekend I will have to start trying her on some things that if they don't work can be stored in the cabinet until a later date. thanks ladiies.
I think I started DD at about 8-9 months. She LOVED them and if she didnt finish a whole jar I would put the rest in the fridge and heat it up a bit before the next meal. They were definitely very convenient. And, i've always loved the variety of stage 3 foods they have.
I don't think I fed stage three to my kids. I just gave them mushed up table food by that point, or soft stuff, anyway.
I give my dd finger foods that mlet quickly in her mouth. I started this at 6 months, before she even had teeth. She is 9 months old & I started stage 3 last month.
Tonya, Robin never ate 3rd foods because he didn't like the texture. He went from 2nds straight to table food at about 8 or 9 months (I'd just mash it up really small). Randy ate some of them, but mostly we just gave him what we were having. Sometimes it is really convienant to have a couple jars on hand, though. My goal for all the infants I take care of it so have them on table food and eating from the same menu as everyone else by 1yr. I've never had a parent question that and most like the idea. I'd say go for it with cheerios, small pieces of soft cheese (if she doesn't have a problem with dairy), ritz crackers and little things like that. Shortbread cookies are good too, just watch how many because of the sugar. Oh, and bananas (cut into thin strips, not wedges or slices). Even grilled cheese sandwiches with the crust removed and cut into small strips. Just see what she likes. Good luck.
I made spaghetti sometime during Sarah's 8th month. I would heat up a little bit and cut it up really small. She had lots of teeth already by 8 months. She loved it. Then I bought some baby food that was tomatoes, macaroni and beef all mixed together. She wouldn't even put her tongue in her mouth to swallow it! I had to scrape it off her tongue and throw the rest away! LOL! She'd had the good stuff and there was no turning back!
