under ds's lower lip. It appeared about 2 wks ago and is getting bigger. Any advice?

By Karen~moderator on Wednesday, September 22, 2004 - 04:32 pm:

How old is DS? I'd go to a dermatologist and get it taken care of.

By Monicamomof3 on Wednesday, September 22, 2004 - 04:33 pm:

he is 3

By Karen~moderator on Wednesday, September 22, 2004 - 05:39 pm:

Definitely go to a dermatologist. They have several ways of removing warts, which, BTW, are you absolutely *certain* it IS a wart? I'd take him in.

By Ginny~moderator on Wednesday, September 22, 2004 - 07:02 pm:

Absolutely a dermatologist. They will know what it is, what to do about it, and the best way to remove it (if it needs removing) with minimal scarring and pain. A growth in a visible place requires a specialist.

By Ginny~moderator on Wednesday, September 22, 2004 - 07:04 pm:

Actually, a growth in any place should be seen by a specialist, but scarring is a more serious concern with something in such a visible place on the face.

I thought a derm. as well. It seems to be growing quickly. Does anyone know what causes them?

Am I sure that it is a wart? Well- I think. I am unsure what else it could be.

By Momoffour on Wednesday, September 22, 2004 - 09:21 pm:

This may sound weird but I totaly reccomend it. My Dd had warts terrible. she had them all over her hands, eyelids, lips, legs, arms everywhere. we went back and forth to the dermatologist and her regular Doctor and they tried some pretty harsh things to her. So I went and got a home remedy book and thought what the heck I will try it. It said to have an older adult (My Mother did it) lick there finger and rub it into the wart and do that a couple of times. My Mom did it maybe 3-4 times over about 3 weeks and my Daughter is Wart free. We have never had a problem since. My Niece had them all over her fingers and sure enough they are all gone. I know it sounds gross but it does work. I couldn't believe it. but I guess something in and older adults siliva causes them to go away.. I would try it

By Monicamomof3 on Wednesday, September 22, 2004 - 09:40 pm:

I was hoping I would have an alternative to try before I went to the Dr. Thanks! I will try that! I'll keep you updated. By the way, what book was this?

By Tink on Wednesday, September 22, 2004 - 09:49 pm:

Warts are caused by the virus that causes them getting under the skin through a break in it, like a scrape or cut. I would be very careful doing this alternative remedy. If you have a break in the skin on your finger or tongue, you may end up with a wart. If you are dead set on trying this, I would wet a tissue or washcloth with your saliva and wipe it with that, making sure that you don't put it back in your mouth. JMO but better safe than sorry! Can you imagine a wart on your tongue?!?!

By Insaneusmcwife on Thursday, September 23, 2004 - 01:25 am:

eewww! A wart on your tongue?!?!? Let us know what you find out with you ds.

By Momoffour on Thursday, September 23, 2004 - 02:42 am:

tink. I wish I could show you before and after pictures of my daughter. She was alittle over 4 when she was really covered with them. I would say just on her eye she had 5-6 little warts. by the time she was 5 and started school they were very noticable and horrible for a 5 year old. and you couldn't imagine what some of the older kids at her school would say. We went through numerous treatments many painfull and didn't seem to make any difference. I was at my end and didn't know what to do for her. I found a home remedies book and read up and it and did exactly what it said. My mom put a little siliva on her finger and rub the warts. My Daughter today is totally wart free. no scars or anything my mom did it a few times and they were gone. I totally agree with it and am glad that I tried it. I didn't have to put her through any more painfull treatments and getting teased at school. and my Mom does not have any warts on her tongue.

I had one on my lip as well. It was just there one day and kept growing. If you don't have it removed, it will just keep growing (and fast too, if it is like mine was). Because it was on my face, I went to the dermatologist. He didn't treat it the way you normally do due to scaring. However, after 3 tries of what was excruciating pain, I told him forget the scar! Just take the darn thing off even if I end up w/ a whole. I do have a scar, but it's not unbareable. You can see it, but nothing that makes you say "hey, what's THAT?" And I was only in my 20's when this happened. The scar was much better than the growing wart. If I had gone sooner, it would have been smaller.

Good luck. Research your dr well before allowing treament.

Ok, another home 'remedy'. This sounds completely weird, but it worked. I had one on the palm of my hand, for months. My friend said her grandmother would always say, to 'take a potato (unpeeled) and rub it on the wart, and throw the potato out in the street!lol) Now, I didnt throw it out in the street, lol, but I did throw it away; a couple of days later, wart was gone. I havent had one since, this was several years ago.

By Katherine on Thursday, September 23, 2004 - 08:45 pm:

When we were kids, my brother had a wart on his finger and my mom rubbed a potato on it and it went away.

By Monicamomof3 on Thursday, September 23, 2004 - 09:15 pm:

I think I will also try the potato thing! When I was little, my grandad told me to rub a piece of bacon on the wart on my knee and bury the bacon in the ground! LOL! The wart never went away until I scraped it on the teeth of a tape dispenser a few years later by accident! LOL!

By Cybermommyx4 on Thursday, September 23, 2004 - 09:51 pm:

Do you cut the potato in half first or rub the outside skin on the wart? Just curious...

By Colette on Thursday, September 23, 2004 - 09:52 pm:

My very Irish grandmother would light a match, spit on it and rub it on my cousins wart. Suppose to make it go away in 7 days. I don't know if it works but I do know I was always very happy I never had warts.

Could it be a cyst? My sister had one on her face as a child. I would find a pediatric dermatologist and make an appointment.

By Tink on Thursday, September 23, 2004 - 10:18 pm:

Momoffour, I did not say that I didn't think it would work. I said that it could spread that way and that I thought she should be careful of the way she treated it if she could to try this home remedy. I had warts all over both of my hands while in high school and I understand how cruel people could be. My dermatologist told me that mine were so bad because of my exzema. He warned me to be careful when touching anything because the wart can spread through the smallest breaks in one's skin. I think it would be terrible if this ended up spreading it instead of curing it. There are several other home remedies such as covering it with scotch tape and apply bleach with a q-tip but that doesn't mean I think that they are healthy or that the risks outweigh the benefits. Personally, I think she should see a professional especially since this is on the face but if she is going to try this, I wanted her to be careful.

By Cakekisses324 on Thursday, September 23, 2004 - 11:19 pm:

lol. I didnt cut potato open, I guess its something in the 'skin' of it. I promise, it worked! It was strange because, I tried, compound w, and all the other otc wart removers. This went on for months, did the potato thing and pretty much the next day it was gone!

This looks good. Compound W... from the drug store and some other stuff.

By Monicamomof3 on Friday, September 24, 2004 - 10:31 am:

I have never had any luck in the past with Compound W. It did make the wart dry up and eventually fall off, but it always came back. I will check out the website Feona- thanks!
