How often does your baby ........

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive July-December 2004: How often does your baby ........

Poop?

Kiko only goes about once every 4 or 5 days...
I have read that this is normal, but it seems very abnormal to me.

He is entirely breastfed. When he does go, he will go usually 2 or 3 times that day-and a horrific amount!!!! Like shooting out of the diaper and going everywhere. It is always soft and runny. But not 'seedy' like they are supposed to be. More shiny and smooth looking...Sorry for the graphic description!!!

My diet is good.....rice every day...veggies...salad...meat.......very little fast food......but some candy everyday(that is my downfall)....

The nurse on the phone said it was normal.......but I think it is wierd...

Sounds normal to me. With my first I thought she was suppose to poop more also, but every 4-5 days is great. And I know what you mean about going everywhere. My babies would fill up a diaper in no time and leak and stain there clothes. Breast milk poop stains everthing it touches.

Sounds normal to me, too. We used to call the days my girls would poop-diaper blowouts-I ended up just throwing away a lot of onesies (and a few outfits) because there was just no hope in ever getting them clean :). By they way they were never seedy for either of my girls.

My daughter always went EVERY time I fed her! And it was a lot too. They were seedy like they said they'd be, but I'm glad that to know that it's normal for it to be like this too, if this baby is like that I would have freaked not knowing. Thanx for this post :)

My kids go at least once a day.
I have heard that breast fed babies do go less often.

By Monicamomof3 on Tuesday, September 7, 2004 - 04:16 pm:

I have breastfed all of my children and it is normal for breastfed babies to "store up" and then "blow out"! The body digests breastmilk differently than formula (cow milk or soy milk base). Formula fed babies usually go more often too. Breastmilk is more absorbable by the baby's underdeveloped intestinal track because it doesn't have to break down the components of breastmilk. After all the baby is drinking milk from it's own species...human! LOL! So- Don't worry!

Monica, that is what my kids did! My oldest one was in daycare during the day and usually had "Blowout" written down around 11:30am everyday! LOL! These were the kind that would wreck everything she was wearing or laying on! Eww!

I remember cleaning her up and putting a diaper down and she would go again and I would have to clean her up again! Argh!

yeah- it seems that that is almost always the case.

Normal.. Normal...

My breastfed son went about a week and a half once without pooping. I worried a little but he was comfortable. I read all the time that constipation in babies is normal but really it's not. It's a formula fed thing and what my son was experiencing was not constipation at all.
I say relax and enjoy the break :)

Had the weekly blowout today!! It went right down to his knees!!

I am so glad that he has never done it when we are out. I guess I think it is wierd because Eliah always went every day.

Hey Unschoolmom.....We are also unschooling....
