Plaese Read if you have a Small Child in your home. :(

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive July-December 2004: Plaese Read if you have a Small Child in your home. :(
By Andi on Tuesday, August 24, 2004 - 12:50 pm:

My neighbors little boy died yesterday. I don't know where the parents were but he was found in the pool. They only lived in this house for about a month in a half. They rented it so I understand them not wanting to put a fence but there are so many inexpensive alarms for pools that they could have used.

PLEASE, If you have a pool have some sort of safety mechanism...preferably a fence around it. No more children need to die this way. It is so preventable and it makes me feel sick to my stomach. This is a very sad day.

Two-year-old drowns in pool

By: North County Times -

OCEANSIDE ---- A 2-year-old boy drowned in a pool Monday at his Oceanside home, authorities said.

The baby was discovered not breathing in the pool by family members about 4:30 p.m. in the 1600 block of Havenwood Drive, fire Capt. Bill Kogerman said.

A family member gave the boy cardio pulmonary resuscitation before police officers and paramedics arrived, he said.

The toddler was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. The baby's name was not released.

"It's a tragic situation, very tragic," Kogerman said.

Oceanside fire Battalion Chief Jerry Abshier said this was the first child drowning that he recalled this year.

"If someone reading this article can prevent future injury or death to another child, there could be something positive that would come out of something so negative like this," Kogerman said.

Experts emphasize that children must never be left unattended even for a minute or two near water, even shallow water, because drownings happen very quickly, Kogerman said, adding that "children drown without a sound."

Oh my goodness. That is so sad. This is one reason, why I don't want a pool.

A pool can be a wonderful source of fun and relaxation, but it also carries a huge responsibility. We are very aware of that responsibility, and never take it lightly. I'll pray for this family.

How sad.Every year we read of an accident like this in our area. This poor family ,I can`t even imagine what they are going through right now.
I`ll pray for them also.

I can't imagine what this family is going through. This is one of the reasons we don't even have a wading pool. Joe is so quick, I just don't want to take the risk.
My prayers for this family.
