2 month old with Pseudomonas Aerugnosa (sp?)
Hi all..its been such a while since I posted on here. I know shame on me!! Since my last post, months ago, I have given birth to a wonderful, beautiful healthy baby girl named Bella Savanna Raine. I barely get online anymore, but I need some advice. Bella had a fever and her ped catherized her and her urine culturee grew the above bacteria. She was recatherized and her ped said that if it indeed was a true bacterious specimen then sge would need to be hospitalized and treated with very heavy iv antibiotics. Well today the results came back again showing the bacteria above and it had grew 2000 colonies again (same amount as first specimen) Now her ped is saying that we dont need to treat this??? Have any of you ever heard of this??? Thanks so much!! Marsha
Congrats on the baby. I would get a second opinion. I have never heard of this condition, but I would see what another doctor says. I know this has to be scary for you & I will keep you in my thoughts.
Is it a strep bacteria? My daughter tested positive for strep B at birth. We had to do a spinal tap when she was five days old and IV antibiotics for two weeks, four times a day. Nothing like having to wake a newborn at 3:00 am for antibiotics. Actually, we were so glad not to have her in the hospital, but at home with home health care! Keep us posted on how things turn out.
Strep is a gram-positive bacteria. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a gram-negative bacteria. It is a bug easily picked up in hospitals. I think I would get a second opinion on the treatment, too, just for piece of mind.
Congratulations on the baby Unfortunately, I don't have any advice. Sorry.
Condrats on the baby... This is one of the bacteria that is commonly found in UTI. And is generally treated with an anti biotic. That said... Get a second opinion. I suggest you find a new PED. Your dd's Ped should have explained to you what it meant. What causes it. How to clear it up. How to prevent it from happening again. And should have taken the time to doctor the child and made sure you understood. I can't stand a doctor that tells you the results of a test and then expects you to know or figure out what they mean. Or gives you medication with out a clear diagnosis. Oh you don't feel good, here take this and see me in three days. Look for a new PED. And big hugs to you and your baby...
