Please Help, Son's Hair Smells Bad

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive July-December 2004: Please Help, Son's Hair Smells Bad
By Maryg on Sunday, August 1, 2004 - 10:10 am:

I have tried everything for my kindergarten son, and his hair still smells bad (like a sweaty head stinky bad). Even after I've shampooed his hair, it still smells. I've searched the net, and can't find any information on this. I've tried all of the kids shampoos, and some of the grown-up shampoos.

Can anyone help me with this?

Try Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Shampoo. You will want to use the conditioner as well, because just using the shampoo can be a little drying.

He probably has an oily scalp and the shampoos aren't getting all the oils out.

We have a family of "oily heads" so I know that this works. :)

Thanks so much, I will try the Paul Mitchell Tea Tree shampoo and conditioner.

We do all have oily scalps, but dry ends. Go figure.

Maybe I'll try it on myself too.

I agree, Tea Tree Shampoo should do the trick.

Try putting baking soda in his hair before you use the shampoo, I use it to remove residue and it works great I'm sure it would help with the smell too.

I would try rubbing the baking soda right against his scalp because the smell could be coming from a buildup of dead skin on it. Good luck and let us know what helps. There are probably a few of us with that sweaty boy smell on our dss.

Wow, the Tea Tree Shampoo seems to be working! Thanks, Thanks! The first time I used it, I had to shampoo and repeat three times, and then used the conditioner. There is still a faint smell, but I put a little bit of baby powder on, and it really seems to be working.

I will be glad when fall comes. This summer has been so hot and the humidity is so yucky! It really has not helped his situation.

Thank-you again for the Tea Tree shampoo idea. He is starting Kindergarten in a few days, and I was so worried about him being teased.
