Hand foot mouth diease
I know I saw something about this not to long ago. But when I did search I could not find it. My dd 3 is staying with my parents this week. My mom had to take her to the doctor today because she was running a fever, crying, and not sleeping well. The doctor said that she had hand foot and mouth diease. I know my ds had this about 3 years ago but I don't remember much. They fortunately are coming home tommorrow. I was just wondering how long it lasted, what if anything made them comfortable and if your other dk's got it? I have a house full of guests right now and I hope everyone does not get it! Maybe I am wrong but I was sure that this was discussed recently. Thanks!
My DD had HFM as a toddler. NOT FUN!! Here's a good article: Coxsackie Virus Hope your wee one is better soon!
My son was the one who had it about a month ago (I had posted). Not fun. It's very uncomfortable. It was hard for him to eat, but the dr told me liquids were most important. I gave him milkshakes, jello, things like that. Lots of straws! His feet were very sore too. He really couldn't walk. It lasted about 5 days for him. The dr told me my other son would absolutely get it- I think he actually gave it to my other son though and just had a very mild form himslef (He just had a fever and one "boo boo" about a week before my other one got a really bad case). Hope she feels better soon.
Well its going okay. It is really weird though. She is fine during the day and at night its awful. Last night I let her sleep with me and she awoke about 5 or 6 times. She trashed in her sleep and talked incoherently. I wonder if her mouth gets more dried out when sleeping and then hurts more? I just hope tonight is better. So far ds has nothing but he has had it before. The article Trina suggested said something about being immune. So I hope so! Ds always gets much sicker then dd. So I really hope he does not get it!
Have you been giving her Motrin? Or Benadryl? Motrin should help with the pain and Benadryl should help her sleep better. Ame
I had this when I was in my twenties! I worked for a Drs ofc at the time and I had not been feeling well, and started to feel like I had a fever. I went to one of the docs and asked them what was going on because I started to get a blister like rash on my hands, and noticed some in my mouth. He diagnosed me with hand foot and mouth disease (coxsackie) and told me usually only children get it!! The rash seemed to come on quickly for me and I remember it being uncomfortable, not really itchy. I think it lasted about 5 days. I hope your little one feels better soon!!!!
That reminded me... THe ped had him gargle Benadryl. He said it was "Poor man's anticeptic."
Does anyone know where I can buy a hat for my 16 month old ds to wear to the beach? I see other babies wearing VERY wide brimmed hats with the tie for the chin but I can't seem to find them anywhere at the mall! I'm super paranoid about the sun and the hats that I do have just doesn't seem adequate. Thanks for your help.
I meant to start a new thread with my question about the hat. So sorry...I'll repost. As for the hand, foot and mouth desease, I wanted to answer that question when I had a few more minutes (I'm at work..) I posted about this not too long ago. My ds, who is 16 months old, had the same type of virus as this but it was isolated to the mouth only. He couldn't eat for about 5 days. The only thing I could do was give him Motrin for the pain and fever. I pureed his food and made sure it was chilled alittle and of course, steered away from any acidic food and salt. It shouldn't last for more than a week at tops. I hope your little one gets well soon!!
Thanks for the responses. She is fine now and so far nothing for ds. I think my mom got the worst of it. I gave her Tylenol, which is what the doctor said to do. It didn't do much good. Hope we don't do this again anytime soon!
