Car Seat Questions for Trina or others
Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Car Seat Questions for Trina or others
After five years and finally getting my first DS into a backless booster, I'm starting all over again with my second DS. He's a doll in all aspects except one ....... riding in the car. It's been suggested that we look to move him out of the infant car seat carrier and it may help. At this point, I'm looking for anything that will make the screaming stop. I'm looking for suggestions on which seat to look for. There are a couple of things that I have to keep in mind. I wish it wasn't but it is and cost is one. For example, I love the Britax MArathon but can't afford the cost, especially since I have to buy two. The other is that "B" is going to be a very tall baby. He's not heavy but very long. Thanks for any suggestions.
What about the Fisher Price Safe Voyage, it's supposed to be a "knock off" of the Marathon and a lot cheaper. Otherwise, ask Trina. I've just stuck with Britax for all my needs so I don't know much about other seats.
Ditto Boxzgrl! The Fisher Price Safe Voyage Deluxe is made by Britax for Fisher Price. It's basically a Britax Marathon without all the bells and whistles. I have one and love it! However, this seat has been discontinued, so it may be difficult to find. I don't know WHY they have discontinued it, because it's a GREAT seat. Here it is on sale with FREE shipping: http://www.albeebaby.com/fiprsavodeco1.html Fortunately, there are now more car seats on the market that harness past 40 lbs.. However, from my understanding, some of these seats are the same size as their former 40 lb. harness versions, just that the weight limit has been raised. Since your DS is tall, that would definitely make a difference. He would outgrow these seats by height long before reaching the weight limit. I believe it's the Evenflo covertibles that fall into this category. Car seats that harness past 40 lbs. http://www.cpsafety.com/articles/Over40.aspx {{{HUGS}}} My DD was also a screamer in the car. She did do better when we transitioned her from an infant carrier to a rear facing convertible, but the car still wasn't her favorite place to be. Needless to say, we didn't travel much back then.
Thanks so much for the suggestion and the links. I know they've been given a million times but I've never paid much attention to the smaller car seats because I didn't need them any more. I'm going this weekend to try his little butt in some of them and see if that helps some too now that I've got some book knowledge.
