Coxsackie

I was just lecturing my family about how I HAVE to go to work for the next 14 days- no one is allowed to get sick and we are doing NOTHING this weekend so everyone remains healthy so I can get to summer vacation (I'm a teacher) without taking anymore time off (I've missed 11 days of work since AUgust and dh has missed 7 since Jan). DS#1 (age7) had a fever on Wed night- but it never got above 100- or so I thought. I dragged him to school, telling him "mommy and daddy drag ourselves to work all the time when we are under the weather." His throat was sore- so I gave him MOtrin and off he went. Well, this Am was better- though I still gave him MOtrin. I went to get the baby at daycare and he was babbling about how his lip hurt when he tugged on it, so I did the typical "Then don't tug on it." THen I looked and there was a blister on his lip- really gross- and blisters in his mouth. I asked about his hands and showed me two (gross) boo-boos. I asked about his feet and he told me he has Athlete's Foot. Well, at 4:50 I called the dr and whisked him over there before they closed at 5. (got there at 4:59- literally). He has "classic" coxsackie. YUCK. The dr told me my other one will get it. So much for my big announcement about not missing any more work. DS #2 (age 2) DID have a fever all last weekend and he's had a terrible runny nose. I'm hoping he had it, but we just are never that lucky! If you made it this far, what do you think our chances are???

I'll be hoping they are in your favor. That's really rotten for you. Do you have any more sick days left? I know different districts give different amounts. I don't think my dks have had this. Is this the same thing as hand-foot-mouth disease? How many days will you have to miss? I know that this is a rotten time of year to have to miss any days at all. I hope its a mild case. {{{hugs to you and your dks!}}}

Yes Coxsackie is Hand-Foot-Mouth Disease. I would love to say the odds are in your favor BUT.... I will just say good luck. LOL

What a fun holiday weekend for you. I will keep you in my thoughts.

I have about 15 more days left, BUT I have SO MUCH TO DO in the next 14 days. It's just crazy at the end of the year. I teach gifted/math support. I service 40 kids a week and had to write reports on 34. I just finished those on Fri. I have 15 PPTs in the next two weeks (for gifted identification and SPED) and 7 GIfted PPTs that I have to attend at another school. I haven't started my ordering (due June11) or xeroxed anything for any of those PPTS. Oh- and to make matters worse- we have to go to a wedding next weekend in Richmond, VA (we live in CT). AHHHHHHHH! I'm totally losing my squash! (Can you tell?!?!?!) He's better today. I'm just worried about the little one.... There's more- but I don't have time to type now. I just can barely handle life without illness right now. This is throwing me over the edge. Plus, IT"S SOOOOOO GROSS! Poor guy can barely walk. HIs feet are so nasty. His mouth is gross too- and he can't eat unless it's really cold.

Laura,
I really admire the way you are dealing with all this. End of the year is crazy enough without worrying about an outbreak in your home and and out of state wedding! I'm sending you lots of healthy vibes and hopes that all goes well for you.

{{{Laura}}} My DD had HFM as a toddler. Not fun! Yes, the end of the school year is crazy! Hang in there and let the little things slide. Would it be the end of the world if you couldn't attend the wedding? A bummer yes, but I'm sure the bride and groom will understand. If not, they WILL when they start their own family. LOL! More HUGS and healthy vibes coming your way.
