Birthday Party Games
I would like some ideas on party games, for a birthday party of an 8 going to be 9 year old girl. Thanks!
First of all, welcome Marie! I hope you stick around - this is a wonderful group of ladies. What kind of theme are you doing? You can always do a makeover - showing proper skin cleansing, etc. Then let them feel "grown up" by applying their makeup and doing their nails. You can also look into purchasing a party type game for preteen girls. Those were always fun! Maybe I can offer some more ideas once I know what theme you have decided on.
My mom did one for one of my birthday parties that was talked about for months afterwards. (Even today I will run into old friends who say I always had the best parties! LOL. Gotta love mom!) Anyway, I will give you a brief description of the game and if you want all the details, I will post again. The game is called Mystery Menu. Each child is given a menu with silly names that describe each food. (For example, on the menu would appear "Noise Maker". When the child "ordered" that, they would be served celery). The kids pick out five items for each of three courses. Now, some foods may require certain utensils. But the utensils are also listed in code on the menu, mixed in with the food choices. So a person may order potato salad, but not a fork. I remember well how much we laughed at kids eating certain things with their fingers! So the kids first take their menus, and choose what they will eat for each of their courses. Then the first course is brought out to all the kids who then have a ball figuring out what was what from the menu. When they are done with that course, out comes the second. This game was so much fun. I had my mom send me all the descriptions she used so that I can repeat the game for my kids at some point. So, like I said, if you want the rest of the details, I'd be happy to post them.
there is unwrap the present, wrap something small bunches of times and then pass it around and let each child unwrap one layer and the one that unwraps the last gets the gift. We did "Who am I?" write names of famous people they would know, scooby doo, spongebob, barbie, ect... and tape it to their backs and they walk around asking yes or no questions till someone figures out who they are. Then you could split them up into pairs and give each team a roll of toilet papaer and the first one to wrap their partner wins, if they go fast the paper tears and they have to start at the top again. We also did the makeover theme for the girls who stayed overnight, we made avacado face masks and painted nails.
Melanie, that sounds like so much fun! I would like to do that with my dd's friends. Could you post the details? Thanks!!
Here it is, Michele. Please let me know if any of this is confusing the way I write it! Give each child a menu. On the left side of the menu will be: 1. Round pushers 2. Noise makers 3. Sour puss 4. Ready zips 5. Food excavator 6. Sky juice 7. Sunshine bars 8. Irish Delight 9. Lovers Lane 10. Burp ball 11. Spring fragrance 12. What am 13. Sopper Upper 14. Golden nuggets 15. hay maker 16. Mixed-up shake 17. Moo juice 18. Bowie 19. Billy goat 20. Flying saucers 21. Cotton Balls On the right side of the menu is: First Course---Second Course---Third Course with five lines under each where the kids will write in their order for each course. (Just have them write the number item they want instead of the words since that is easier). They may only choose each item one time. And, of course, you can add more or change items as you want to. And they can pick more items for each course as well, if you want to do that. This is just the way my mom did it. Next, collect all the menus. In the kitchen you will have the following key: 1. Round pushers - rolls 2. Noise makers - celery 3. Sour puss - dill pickle 4. Ready zips - green beans 5. Food excavator - toothpick 6. Sky juice - water 7. Sunshine bars - carrot sticks 8. Irish Delight - potato salad 9. Lovers Lane - spoon 10. Burp ball - radish 11. Spring fragrance - scallion 12. What am - ham 13. Sopper Upper - napkin 14. Golden nuggets - corn 15. hay maker - fork 16. Mixed-up shake - jello salad 17. Moo juice - milk 18. Bowie - knife 19. Billy goat - butter 20. Flying saucers - cookies 21. Cotton Balls - marshmallows I would suggest just having all of these lined up in the kitchen with a number on each so if a child ordered a "5" you don't have to consult your list, you just grab a toothpick which is labeled "5". Be sure each child's name is on their plate so you know who to give the plate back to. You can finish with a grand finale of: Active Volcano (Birthday Cake) Igloo (ice cream) Vitalis (Soda) Let me know if you do it...I would love to hear how it goes over with the kids!
that is a cute idea !! my DD is turning 8 on June 6 she would love some game like that

We just had a detective party for my newly 6 yr old DD. ALL the kids loved it. A ton of preplanning went into it, but was a huge success. I think this would work for ANY age group...boy or girl. If you are interested, let me know and I will give you the details from our party.
