Has anyone heard of?
Has anyone ever heard of or seen a book for kids about having your tonsils taken out? My friend's three year old is having her tonsils and adnoids taken out and tubes put in her ears next month. She's looking for a book that kind of talks about surgery and what she will go through. We've both looked at Barnes and Nobles and when I do a google search NOTHING comes up which is odd. any ideas?
Here ya go... A Visit to the Sesame Street Hospital Book Description Illus. in full color. "Grover, his mother, Ernie and Bert visit the Sesame Street Hospital in preparation for Grover's upcoming tonsillectomy. The familiar characters change an unfamiliar hospital into a place to be trusted, and many typical questions are discussed. Valuable."--School Library Journal
Here is another one.. Good-Bye Tonsils! Book Description Good-bye, nasty germs! Good-bye, sore throats! Good-bye, tonsils! It is time for Juliana to have her tonsils taken out. Operations can be scary but Juliana is prepared. With the support of her friends, her family, books and toys, she knows exactly what to expect. Surgery doesn't seem so bad because Juliana knows that she has a lot to look forward to: presents and the ultimate cure-all-ice cream-are on their way! Marilyn Mets's lively and amusing illustrations perfectly complement the engaging text.
and another one. Let's Talk About When You Have to Have Your Tonsils Out Discusses where and what the tonsils are, how they become infected, why some people have to have them removed, and what happens during a tonsillectomy.
Here is another book.. Popsicles For Breakfast: the tonsil book it is
Great recommendations, Bobbie!
Both my dd`s had their tonsil`s and adnoids out 2 years ago and they both got book`s from the ENT `s office before their surgery , same for ds who had tube`s. They had the good-bye tonsils book. And my ds book was David get`s tube`s. Both were very good book`s. Your friend`s dd will feel so much better after ! None of my kid`s have had ear infection`s or sore throat`s after the surgery`s (no kidding).
Those "Lets Talk About........" books were fantastic! I used to have a whole series of them that I used to read to the kids all the time.
Also, here's one: Chris Gets Ear Tubes
More useful than the books (which I did also! ) is the actual visit to the hospital. My DD had a great time touring the hospital and got to see the actual operating room, ride in the bed, take home a dr kit and learn about going under. Hopefully your hospital offers this too.
Thanks for all the suggestions, I've forwarded them on to my friend and she says thanks a million!
