Small children and homemade bread.....
I made some homemade bread last night, and gave some to the kids this morning with breakfast. They both ate it, and enjoyed it, but then Madison threw up a few hours later. It was strange, no warning, she was in her stroller and smiling, then vomiting. I don't mean to be gross, but the way it happened made me think of the girl in the tent in "The Sixth Sense". She has been fine all day, and no other signs of illness. She eats white and wheat bread from the grocery all the time! She has no food allergies, but my mother has developed allergies to tons of foods she used to be able to eat in the past few years. Does anyone know of any reason it may have made her sick? Could it just be a coincidence? Maddie is VERY petite for her age, and there was wheat gluten added to this recipe. Can that upset her stomach? Anyone else have any problems? TIA!
I think it's probably a coincidence. There is gluten in wheat/white breads. You might just want to file that in the back of your head to see if it happens again.
Agreed, Kids puke that is just another one of those nasty things they do. Just another one of those things that you don't pick up in mommy 101 classes by the way. Doesn't need to have a cause or reason. When it wants to come it comes... I have had to clean up vomit from a child that doesn't act sick to many times that I have stopped questioning it. I would doubt there was anything in your bread that they don't eat on a daily basis... So that said... Coincidence, I am almost certain.
I think it sounds like a coincidence too. My DD has just gotten sick out of nowhere before too. Although, if you are worried about allergies running in your family, then getting tested couldn't hurt. Keep us posted if you decide to test.
I agree with everyone else I think it could be a coincidence, maybe she ate too much of it?? My middle DS is very small and if he eats too much of something he will get sick and throw it up. Homemade bread is wonderful for kids, if I could make it all the time I would, it doesn't have preservatives. But if it happens again I wouldn't give her anymore.
Ditto everyone else Try giving her some more of the bread. If she throws-up again, then I would consider an allergy to something in it. Otherwise, I would say it's just a coincidence. Homemade bread sounds good! Maybe I'll have to make some today LOL
Ok, I guess it's unanimous!! Well, I'll try again, and I tend to agree with everyone, she probably just had to puke! Mommyathome, I had to laugh when I read your post. You are right, but it made me think "Are kids just a big science/social experiment?" Everything we do is so trial and error, even medically!! LOL
For what it's worth, my two-year-old puked twice Fri morning- in the same way. Very happy, not a care in the world. I had to stay home from work and was mad because he was totally FINE. Maybe it's a "happy puking virus!" LOL!
"Everything we do is so trial and error, even medically!!" Actually EVERYTHING we do with our children is trial and error. And that goes for each and every child you have. One thing works for one and won't even budge the other. Even in the case of twins. So that said happy experimenting...
Ain't that the truth! The most important thing we will ever do in our lives is a total crap shoot!
lol Laura!!
