If this in in re to the GERD babies whose doctors recommended cereal early, they don't get cereal to help them sleep, they get it to help the liquids stay down.

A small amount is just used to thicken the formula. We did this because DS had GERD so bad that he wasn't gaining any wieght.

This wasn't ever suggested when my ds was dx with GERD, but I sure wish it was. I carried around 3 or 4 receiving blankets to catch it all after he was fed. lol Maybe it wasn't suggested because I breast-fed?

My middle child also had GERD. It was never suggested to me to use cereal either.
We actually finally found a prescription formula that worked great for her.
It seems like everything causes something.
But, I have seen several news stories saying that cereal doesn't help a baby sleep longer. But, I have to say it surely made my kids sleep longer. LOL

We use to suggest Rice cereal as an additive for babies with GERD (worked as a Med. Assist. Ped office). It makes a big difference in how much comes back up. But it is used to thicken the formula not to make the baby sleep longer. They have all kinds of new formula's out now that make a huge difference too. Nutramigen, Isomil, Enfamil Prosobee and several others. Alot of babies with Gerd have an intolerance to cow based formulas (My girls could not eat anything Cow based. How ever they have no issues with it now.). So the Dr would switch the child to a soy based product and if the Gerd continued then he would have the parents add the rice. The actually sell a formula that has rice cereal already mixed in it. Enfamil AR.

And I know a bunch of mom's that would disagree with the cereal not helping the child sleep longer. I think for everything out there, there is someone pro and someone con. A lot of times you have to just go with your gut and the examples of others you know.

My son was on cereal very early because he
fat and was always hungry and was needing
10 oz every 3 hours! The doc told me to give him
cereal because to much formula is not good.
Now my dd did not need cereal until she was 3 1/2
months.
