Finger question
On Saturday my dd accidentally got my ds's finger caught in the sliding glass door. His fingernail turned black but only for a short time, then it stayed a little red but i figured it was fine. Well today it is very swollen. Its just the tip of his finger that is swollen and it looks nasty. I am worried since it was not that swollen in the beginning. Anyone seen anything like that? I don't want to be overreacting and drag him to the dr for no reason.
Do you have an "Ask a Nurse" phone number? Or just call the dr office w/ the question and wait for a call back. My DD's office is very good about that kind of stuff. I would think most pediatrician offices would be.
I agree with Dana. Call the doctor and ask if they think it's necessary to bring him in. I tend to lean on the "better safe than sorry" side and bring them in. Hope his finger is OK!
I did call the dr. She wants me to bring him in today, i must say i feel silly getting worked up over a finger but it worries me that it started swelling after a few days had gone by.
When it starts swellling a while after the injury, you are right to be concerned. I'm glad you're taking him. Hope he feels better. Ame
Ditto Ame. Let us know what you find out
Well they id some xrays and there was no fracture, the dr said the nail will fall off and there is some bleeding under the nail which is normal. He said if the swelling does not go down in a day or 2 then they will have to put a hole through to drain the blood. It doesn't seem to bother him at all which is good. Thanks everyone!
I feel better that you got some xrays! That must be one sore finger, though!
Thanks for the update. I'm glad he's okay and it doesn't seem to bother him. If it does tonight, you might want to give him some children's Motrine (if you haven't already) to help with the pain and the swelling. Things always seem to feel worse at night. Ame
